    Hi

apols if this thread has been done before...

I'm thinking of homing in on a dslr sometime (not quite yet) and wondered.....

    1) Is the d70s worth having over the d70 (the bigger screen is probably the clincher for me).

    2) Whats a good lens to put with a body if I bought a body only?

I'm after a bit of wide angle +a bit of telephoto + good macro (separate lens?)

I looked at the d40 but doesbn't have depth of fiel preview!

The size of the d70 if off putting....I'lls need to look at one in the flesh first ...but a mate at work was saying this can be a good thing......cuts down on came shake

I ahve to say i like nikons gernerally as they seem to be built well.

    any thoughts?

    D.

    Hi David,

I don't know how much you are getting the D70/D70S for but I saw a D80 for £489 here. This isn't much more than the prices I have seen for the 70/s. I'm sure you know that the 70 and S are no longer made, doesn't mean that they won't fit your needs though. I have a 70S and like it (and Nikon s generally) for it's size and feel. I'm just sorry I don't use it very often. I think I've used it less than 10 times since I bought it:(.

No fixed plans really Dev, I was just looking at what was on e bay.

D70(s) go for a good £ so, as you say its questionable whether its worth goign down the second hand route when good deals can be had for new stuff.

It is perhapts a point...... :)

I don't think there isn;'t much difference between then - it's all down to personal preference...

I only bought the canon beause it was cheap at the time - it could have easily been a nikon... ;)

David - rule Pentax in too. K10D can be had for similar money to the D80 and is more a match for the D200.

Yes, I know, I have mate at work who has just bought the k10D.......the only thing is the kit lens........his old sony point and shoot is a close second.......too close apparantly.

I just like the fel; of Nikons.......why I irst liked the 5700 (on its way back from nikon BTW....fixed FOC....CCD)

It was like my Dads old Canon A1 film....not sure they make them like that now....

I'm pretty sure the d70 can have a firmware upgrade to the d70s.

I suspect you'll find the Pentax 18-55mm kit lens is at least as good, if not better than the Nikon kit and I personally feel quite a bit better than the Canon equivalent.

maybe it doesn't matter so much if the view finder is good /better one (5700 is .not esp good)
