Remembering there were a few folk here into photography - I've taken the plunge and bought a Nikon D70 SLR. I have to say that for my kind of photographer (ie amateur, non-obsessive, unlikely to enlarge anything above A4, travel'n'kids...) there's just no contest any more - digital wins hands down. This camera is the bees knees - fantastic metering so that most of the time you can pretty much point and click, but with full override on everything, great optics, feels solid (admittedly not like the old old Nikons, but good enough). I'm sticking my beloved 801s in the local classifieds, along with a zoom and one 500mm lens that I bought and never actually used - tempted to keep the body with a black and white film permanently in it, but the kit bag gets heavier and heavier, and I need to offset the D70 cost..

The D70 is a superb camera. Significantly better than the equivalent canon (300D), and I say that as someone with ~£5k in canon EOS gear. I'm in a bit of a quandary with my setup... I want digital, but my D30 is not high enough res and nothing like fast enough. My EOS 3 is superbly fast, but it's film.... And I can't afford a 1Ds or 1DmkII...

Anyways, glad you're happy... get shooting!

Must admit that I'm sorely tempted by the D70 as I have an F90X that rarely gets used these days, an SB28 flash and a bunch of Nikkors. It's only a matter of time before I take the plunge - bet the F90X is worth bugger all these days though.

Much as I love film (and initially hated digital), I only really use my little Canon A70 these days - and it isn't a size thing as I have a lovely Contax T2 compact gathering dust along with the Nikon stuff.

For me the one thing digital offers that is the clincher is the instant result i.e. if it's no good then delete and re-take it - if it's fine then you know straight away.

What size is the CCD on the D70 by the way?

    Matt.

I agree - the instant view and keep/delete is the 'killer app' for digital; remember the days of auto-bracketing and shelling out to get half a dozen variations of the same slide to see which one had worked..

I also just like looking at pictures on screen - I have a reasonable printer but only tend to print out if I'm going to frame something. paper pictures are quite tactile, but you end up with crates of the damn things

    The CCD is 6.24 m pixels - 23.7 x 15.6 mm

Anyone know a decent site for selling camera equipment (other than ebay)? Want to sell off the f801s body and some lenses and bits and pieces I no longer need.
