I think thats it for me guys. No more hifi gear, not for a good few years yet anyway....

    Why?

Well a number of reasons really. Firstly, I feel a bit bored with the whole thing to be honest. Tired of worrying whether I can do better, tired of having no money.

I am happy with my system. To my ears, theres little else I can do to improve it.

Has anyone else felt bored by this hobby, tired of worrying about it?

Anyway, on that note, this is where I will be retiring from buying more hifi gear. Enough is enough for me....

PS. Feel free to take the piss if I upgrade something within the next 12 months. :D

Well, I'm not 100% happy with my system, but that's down to the larger room that my Elas are a bit too small to fill properly. I'm with you though - fed up of forking out for stuff for small improvements. I'm bagging a rack from a colleague so I can swap out my JPW one into the bedroom, but that's it... I'm kind of tempted to get the new Rega Planet too 'cos my one is too noisy (the puck knocks on some discs) but sound-wise it's fine...

Let's face it - ALL of us can better our systems, but a nice holiday will give you a good vibe when you come home so your system will sound better for a while anyway, and you get to see new stuff.

My hifi budget will be Amsterdam, Oktoberfest and VooV next year all being well! (oh, and Glasters of course).

And seconded Paul - don't go away dude - we've got to meet up one day man :) What's the club scene in Newcastle like??? :)

I'm not going anywhere, although it seems to have come across like that a little. Just that I have got bored with spending cash on little improvements. As I say at the other place, I've not heard a high end system thats impressed me that much (some even sounded worse to me than my own system), and even if there was some high end system I would aspire to, I could not afford it anyway.

I guess I just want to get myself out of debt, and start enjoying life again, instead of worrying about the next upgrade, and where the money is coming from for it... :)

Dom, I suspect the club scene in Newcastle is really pretty similar to any other medium sized city really, the thing that sets apart Newcastle from other towns and cities is the sheer amount of pubs (over 137 per square mile). That is why it was voted a party city ;)

I did that for a while. The best thing about these upgrade lulls is it frees up some cash so you can buy loads of music - which is the whole reason for the upgrading in the first place, isn't it? Be warned, though, it never lasts......

you are not alone...I wonder sometimes why I bother,....its only a bit of music to listen to, and a spell away will do you good..you can go around in circles, and the key question is, is this new buy making my life measurably better? in a lot of instances, no...

I sometimes feel like that too, I get peroids where I just think its all pointless. At the moment I am hoping to move out so all my money is being saved. Howevert this did not stop me from paying £10 on some new speaker cable at the HIFI show in Manchester.

    Nice - I'm there dude... :)

Paul - is that FOR REAL!?!?! 137 psm? JEEEEEEEEEZUS! That's a lot of pubs... I think Exeter's only got 207 (I'm sure it's something crazy like that) over a much larger area. So Newcastle has a similar number of pubs to Glasgow's offlicences then? ;)

137 psm at the last count (that was about 5 years ago), there'll probably be more than that now... Newcastle has more pubs per square mile than any other town or city in Europe - we're all piss heads :D
