I've recently acquired one of these little glowing things and would like to experiment with a DIY power supply for it, as I assume that the wallwart type can be improved upon.

I'm not exactly gifted when it comes to electronics, nor am I rich (is the former the reason for the latter?), so I wonder if anyone can give me some fairly simple pointers for a cheap but effective solution? Something to keep me busy over the forthcoming cold and lean months, out of harms way from all things related to Christmas shopping and school holidays.

    Chris.

If you look at the LC audio web site and the low noise regulated psu

    http://www.lcaudio.com/index.php?page=69

This can be built into a nice case with a suitable swich and cables for around the £100 mark.

I've built one of these but at present I have a mismatch with the NOS power termination ...duh. So at present can't tell you what the improvments are yet.

yep rechargable batteries, and some very simple switching so when the units turned of the battry are charging, turning the unit on disconects the charger and reconects the battery to the dac.im using 2 7ah sealed lead acid batterys to run my phono pre amp and it works a treat

Thats intresting........ I saw a demo and I think it was Pink Triangle, were a lead acid battery was fitted in place of probabley a nickel hydride....with the volume turned to max and no signal you could hear a fiz, this was explained as bubbles in the acid !

I can appreciate that ! It was more a low level hiss but fizzing sounded better in the post !

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm very interested in the rechargeable battery approach - does anyone have any links to anything which could provide build instructions for the complete (idiot) novice, by any chance?

    Thanks again,

    Chris.

All depends on what sort of batterys you intend to use, what sort of voltage and current do you require? as this will narrow down the battery choice,my lead acid charger was built around L200 voltage requlators, and a mulipole 2 way switch

I built the PSU for mine using the LC Audio bits:

I didn't really do any proper before/after testing so I can't tell you what, if any, improvements it made.
