    Hi folks,

I've finally got my hifi all nicely set up jus the way I want it, in my loft conversion. Thing is, nowt to sit on! At the moment all i've got is an old horrible MDF shelving unit on its side! lol

I need a cheap sofa, i've spent all my money on the hifi, so not much to go towards a sofa. A 2-seater is fine. Reckon I might get something around £200? As long as its pretty comfy and looks ok im happy - anythings better than the MDF!

I found a website who do 'build it yourself' kinda things - they look ok on the photos, come in different colours and cost from £199. Think this could be the option. What do you think? Its appealing cos its easier to get up in the loft too.

Most Sofas IMHO are rubbish and you really need to try them out before buying. Having said that I've always though these are a nice idea for restricted access or if you happen to think they look good.

A throw back to the '60s but worth a look. I know it has that porn star look but it may be exactly the image you are seeking for your new loft.

Go 2nd hand/vintage - I've seen old leather button back Chesterfields for less than that and they look quite classy - and what's more they get better looking and more comfortable the older they get! I've noticed that you can buy nearly new chairs/sofas for a fraction of the new price, they seem to lose the majority of their value very quickly, I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult to find something cheap and clean!

Yeah used is a good way to buy furniture if you have the time to look for it. I've bought some 'classic' furniture for a fraction of new prices.

Ikea deliver their sofas AFAIK as they're made to order...

Re the stairs thing - why not get an Ikea FUTON instead? I've got a second-hand one which I use as a sofa and it's very nice...

I use normal sofas downstairs for the hifi (Argos ones - forget the name) but the futon is in many respects better :)

Hi thanks for all your replies - some good ideas.

Check out the futons at ikea website - cant really tell what they're like by the photos. Looked at argos site - they seem to have quite a few around £150 - £200 which look ok. Not sure how long they'll last though.

The Klippan from ikea also seems a bargain at £120.

    decisions!!...

And I was able to take it there and then - it fits in the back of a small estate car.

Yes, do get second hand; like here or here (this one is a pair).

Both vendors say they are sensibly priced.

    Cheers

Secondhand leather, beat up but loved. Can't beat 'em.

Or, what about a bean-bag? You could use it in the meantime and then get the sofa of your dreams later, and if you have a cat or dog then they can 'inherit' the bean-bag and they'll be your bestest bestest friends forever ;)

a couple of bean bags may not actually be a bad idea:)

I saw a couple of sofas at the weekend in BigW (part of woolies), which were £150 - £200. These werent too bad but I doubt i'd be happy with it.

By the way, when I said 'classy', I didnt mean as in traditional. Sorry, should've explained this.

Think i'll google a bean bag! See whats available.

No, I was joking. Sorry if that was not clear (it means it was not funny, anyway:D ). I directed you to the most expensive antique shops in England and, moreover, to rather ugly and very unconfortable chairs. I you want so see even more expensive antiques, do a google on Mallett.
