is the actual turntable removeable from the blue marble plinth?

if it is, what recommendations are there for other plinths?

    cheers.

yes, the turntable sits on the plinth with its rubber adjustable feet.
The feet work very well and I managed to get mine perfectly level on top of the plinth (the package from Notts brings a spirit level included, very useful!).

I am actually using the plinth because mine is almost all black, has very little fake marble effects on it, so I can't vouch for other materials used as plinths. Something solid should do the trick, and I read here that some people use granite slabs. I imagine you could also use a thick glass plate underneeth, not sure if it will make the sound brighter...

If the colour is the problem why not have it sprayed?

You may like the plinth or you may not ... it doesn't matter too much so long as you site it reasonably sensibly ,with or without. It isn't needed.

A wall shelf or some good solid furniture.

I like the marble effect, always have.

It is very good at hiding dust too.

I think maybe they are messy bachelors, men after my own heart :)

on my mentor the plinth has a hole cut in it, and the motor stands on the shelf underneath - so its an integral part of the design.

Even without that, I'm convinced that the extra mass of the plinth provides some additional damping. I'm sure you could get a similar affect with a chunk of granite or whatever if you really wanted..

I briefly tried my Spacedeck without its lovely marbled base, placed directly on top of an Ash Designs rack, and then on a Torlyte platform, again on the same rack. In both cases I rapidly went back to using Tom's baseboard, as the sound is so much better balanced and musical. Maybe there's something really clever inside the baseboard, but probably not!

The one thing that I did which improved the Spacedeck (apart from a Wave Mechanic PSU) was to support the baseboard on 3 small Russ Andrews oak cones. The big ones didn't work, for some reason which I cannot understand. The result is better detail and control.

    Cheers
