Apparently it's the fastest Police car in the world, cracking 300Kmh. Wait til they discover the M5.:D

I bet they fight over who will get to drive that one! It kind of ruins the fun having police written on the side though!

You'll notice the Porsche is actually moving;).

On a serious note, I can't imagine the Lamborghini or the Lotus making very good Police cars due to poor visibility and the practicality (the lack of:)).

The italian one is real... The lotus was just a publicity thing though. The fastest UK police cars are volvo T6s, Jaguar XJRs and Mitsubishi Lancer EVOs.

With all the effort and design in the airflow over the car you would have thought they would have found a way to integrate the blue lights into the body work and not stuck on top like a great big wind breaker!

Just point an old am CB with a 1killowatt dixie kicker at the the police car chasing you IT'll stop faster enough (unless it runs a carb)

With the size of the speed humps round here Id be pretty confident of losing them.

GMP have (or poss had) a specialist car unit based in Manchester that was there too try and crack down on the huge theft problem they had. Along with some Astra GSi's and Escort RS2000's they had an Escort Cossy, XJR and Scubby turbo's with an underplate fitted that could take a speed hump at 70mph.

Most probably they'll stick with the 911 considering it's by far the faster car on any road with corners on :p

Only in a world in which the Mitsubishi Evo, Nissan Skyline GTR, Caterham R500, Caterham RST V8, etc don't exist. Any of them will rubbish a 911 through the twisties.

Evo yes, not so sure about the skylines handling? A bit tail happy/big through the twisties? The thought of a caterham ploice car has given me a chuckle though. TBH I couldnt imagine any of those cars rubishing each other on normal roads with equally skilled drivers due to visability if driven to limit points, the difference would show only on a track where nothing will be coming the other way.

The skyline is front engine 4WD, so will be much less tail-happy than the rear-engine, RWD 997.

Indeed, all of them are capable of being driven easily to the limits of safe road driving. So are most cars on sale. I just disagreed with the 911 being "by far the fastest" once the safety factor is taken out.

It's the TVCU (Tactical vehicle Crime Unit), there was a series on a few years about them called 'X Cars'

Even the Astra pandas have the rally style sump guard fitted.

The unit is still going strong and there is, believe it or not, a significantly reduced amount of theft of the 'joyriding' type. It is geared a lot more at intelligenced based policing with regards to organised car crime nowadays.

They developed that just as my uncle was retiring from traffic, at that point car crime was out of control, glad to hear its improved.

I wouldn't be at all sure about that. Autocar recokned the new M5 was a match for the Ferrari 430 in pretty much every department including handling. And no, that doesn't say more about the 430 than it says about the M5 - Autocar also rank the 430 up there with the best of the best.

The only point I was trying to make was that out right power and straight line speed won't always be the determining factor as to which vehicle is quicker A to B over any road (except as I said dead straight ones). As for 911s being tail happy well by all accounts that's an outdated view as Porche have apparently completely dialled out that trait from the new models. I'm sure there are plenty of cars faster than a 911. I was specifically comparing them with BMWs however.

How much better is the M5 than the M6 then? Because it must have much better handling if it's going to beat a 911. The 911 trounced the M6 in a recent shoot out on Top Gear, despite giving away over 140bhp.

Something that amused me was the response of Manc joyriders to the cops Sierra Cosworth's - they would nick Scooby's because they are narrower and could fit down various alleys that would catch the Cossie's out.

Seriously though the Lambo would outperform the Porsche without much trouble but their not much room for cones and other traffic cop gear.

I cant see the M5 being quicker than the M6, but the Lambo would show the 911 turbo a clean pair of heels.
