I'm confused. What does "Dr. Amar Bose '51" mean? It seems that apostrophe should be a comma, but they repeat it lower down. Is this chaps name really Amar Bose '51? Like the guitarist in Slipknot is called Seven?

There has always been good things to say about Bose. Not our cup of tea, but better to listen to music through a Bose system than not at all. ;)

I've nothing personal against Bose, just their marketing hype. It has it's good points just like any other make, but I prefer other alternatives for the money.

I thought he's just turned 51, but that can't be right if he jointed MIT in 1955.

We didn't choose the stereo in the car, it was standard fitting.

I visited, as an engineering student, the Hill in Framingham in 1993.

They were very courteous and hospitable. Lunched with the VP M&S,
visited the design dept, visited sonic hell (a bunker where 100s
of drivers were being soak-tested concurrently, have you ever seen
a tweeter make visible excursions and survive?), manufacturing
(where we saw drivers with the wildest response aberrations being
put in the 'OK' bin ;-), demonstrations of domestic and in-car systems.

Nice. Friendly. But brainwashed. All of them. When I asked where they
positioned themselves relative to high-enders like Apogee and Martin
Logan the only reply I got was "we are high-end".

Most of their approach is BS, and their engineering low-grade. Still,
the original 901s may be cool as the rear channels in an AV setup.
The 301 was nice for shops and bars.

And the Bose system in my car sounds significantly better than the equivalent B&O in my wife's car. Actually this is weird: the B&O sounds rather wonderful, until you start the engine. Then it turns into shattered glass. The Bose systems sounds warm and cozy. Like a big lazy dog.
