I've tried it myself more times than I care to remember with absolutely no indication that stranded cables are inferior to solid cores. Cable sound boils down to a few simple parameters.

Richard, Ive read that artice before and found it interesting.

Richard and Pete, do you recall the article 'Golden Ears' published a decade ago in HFN/RR?

The author built two line level active pre amps, one using good quality but 'standard' parts and the other using using audiophile stuff with a X10 price premium. These were fed into a simple switching unit with 12 position. In effect, as you turned the switch you got a different mix of pre amp and a different cable.

In short, these were the results:

"Of all the 31 people who took the test, 15 (48%) detected no differences at all. As to tests themselves, of the 341 steps in the complete exercise there were 248 opportunities to detect the existance of the pre-amplifiers. Only 24 were in fact noticed. Additionally, 12 'detections' were made where they were still connected to the source. In all cases the differences were described as 'slight or 'doubtful'."

Kind of puts all this cable 'black arts' cobblers into perspective.
