Not had one of these for a while, but they're always good for picking up a few new names.

Well the end of the MOnth is nearly here and I've MOstly been listeninf to

Kid Koala: "Carpal Tunnel Syndrome" Ninja Tunes (need I say MOre) turntablist! Excellent clever album. Some of what this guy does with his tables is rather special! "Like irregular chicken" is possibly the funniest tune i've ever heard!

Radiohead: "hail to the theif" The heads latest. Seen mixed views on this one. Liked it from first play, and liking it MOre with further listening.

Merz: Can't get over how great this album is! picked it up ages ago and dismissed it after one listen, but given a second chance and it's a not so instant classic! Quality beats and some good lyrics too!

Bowie: Various albums. "Rise and fall of Ziggy.....", "Hunky Dory", "Pin ups", "Aladdin Sane"..... and a few others.

Bob Marley: Got about 10 albums, been listening to one or two a day MOst days.

Eric Bibb: "Painting Signs". Not 100% on this album as a whole. When he does what he does best they guys pure class. But after the first few tracks the album seems to take on a 1 good, 1 poor, 1 good..... routine.

Massive attack: 100th window's been gettin played quite a bit too.

Well, not much *new* there. I've got the newest UNKLE album, but not had a chance to listen to it properly. Will do so soon though.

Octobers most listened to for me...

Athlete Vehicles and Animals, awesome have listened to this over and over again.

Starsailors latest, so much better than the last one

The Darkness, rather like this, but I know that reviews have been mixed

The Kings of Leon, if you haven't heard this you must give it a go. Absolutely superb. This'll be getting my vote for album of the year, unless something better comes along in the meantime!

I gpt the Athlete album a while back and was pleasently surprised :D I'm becoming less and less interested in the current "indie" scene. MOst of it sounds like unimaginative ca@p IMO. They're not exactly beaking barriers themselves, but a refreshing change from a lot of the other pants out there IMO!

Not big on starsailor or the darkness, but the little i've heard of Kings of Leon sounds good. Sounds like somethig my younger brother will buy, so i'll wait for him to splash his cash first ;)

I listened to the 22-20s today. What the hell's all the fuss about?

Other than that, all sorts: Fennesz, Pelt, lots of unreleased John Coltrane live bootlegs from 1965-67 (11 CDs of it), Dome 3 & 4, the Art Ensemble of Chicago's new one, Tribute to Lester, Louis Moholo/Larry Stabbins/Keith Tippett's Tern (bloody good), and a box set of Jimmy Lyons which is possibly the best "new" thing I've heard all year (although it's old recordings, and Lyons died in 1986, they've never been released before).

I've been playing the CD that I eventually got from 101cd and which I never identified. It was of course:

Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow - Stranger In Us All

...a cracking album if ever there was one.

Haven't had much time for music this month. Too many projects on the go but I have been listening to these:

    Linkin park - Hybrid Theory

    Nickelback - Silver Side Up

    Foo Fighters - Foo Fighters

    John Martyn - Solid Air

Giant - Last Of The Runaways

    Ozric Tentacles - Erpland

Dionne Warwick - Heartbreaker, The Very Best of...

    :)

Not a lot so far this month really, but mainly:
Fallen - Evanescence (as it seems to be glued into my housemate's in car CD so I hear it on the way to and back from work....

However, there was some other stuff...
Screamadelica - Primal Scream ("Simply" vinyl)
Piper at the gates of dawn - Pink Floyd (vinyl)
Unplugged in New York - Nirvana ("Simply" vinyl)
Love over gold - dIRE sTRAITS ("Simply" vinyl)
    Legend - Bob Marley (CD)
Sunspot - Dark Soho (surprise surprise!) (CD)
Shooting rubber bands at the stars - Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians (vinyl)
Twisted - Hallucinogen (re-issue on vinyl)
Another world - Astral Projection (vinyl)
A fierce pancake - Stump (vinyl)
Say something good - River City people (vinyl)

...so a few randoms from recent-ish vinyl purchases that I've had to get round to listening to!

    - here's a tip for you vinyl junkies - get Nirvana's Unplugged on Simply - they had it on sale in HMV for £12.99 - it's awesome. Unlike the CD where it's "Jesu don't want me for a sunbeam" you can actually hear Kurt sing the "s" on "Jesus" ;)

Totally agree with you regarding that album. It's not quite as good as his earlier efforts, haven't heard the two since "Just Like Love" which was out before but only as an internet release for a while, and the new one, "Natural Light" but will pick them up at some point. If anyone's interested, looks as though he's touring with his band from the middle of next month. www.ericbibb.com

Also, listened to these at various friends places and can thoroughly recommend them.

Billy Bragg - Must I Paint You A Picture (3cd best of). Much improved sound quality over the original CD releases, good track selections.

Television - Marquee Moon (remaster). One of the best remasters I've ever heard, right up there with Love's Forever Changes in terms of sound quality. Lead & rhythm guitars have been mixed into left & right channels respectively so you can hear them a lot more clearly. It's just a shame the other 2 albums Television made weren't anything like as good.

    Rock's back pages:

Bob Dylan, Blood on the Tracks.
Never really understood Mr Zimmerman and his nasal whine, but listening to this, the newly remastered version, I think I'm beginning to.

    Led Zeppelin, Physical Graffiti.
As a fully paid-up member of the raincoat-wearing 80s indie brigade, I wouldn't touch this lot with a barge pole. My loss. What a stonking record; especially the second disc. I've since picked up III (both come in natty LP replica sleeves). S******* to H***** remains a no-no.

    Willis, Come Get Some.
Had this for a while, couldn't get on with it, saw her on Later, gave it another go, found it's actually rather good.

Yeah, Physical Graffiti is good. 'In My Time Of Dying' is pure class and I just love winding the wick up for 'Trampled Under Foot' but the whole album is brilliant. You would probably like 'Presence' too :)

TASTE! But you need to hear my 12inch green vinyl of "Prove it" - now that sounds awesome!

Julian2002 - do you have COSMOLOGY by Cosmosis!? I'm GAGGING to get it and am trying to score a copy - my piece of c*** (aka PC) messed up during the last minute of an auction on ebay so I missed out - any chance of being able to blag a copy while I try to locate it, should you own it?

    Other stuff I forgot:
Old kit bag - Richard Thompson (cheers Ian - not bad at all dude!)
Hunky Dory - David Bowie (played this on the works PC from my original 1983 RCA CD issue)
    White Album - Beatles
    Suzi Quatro - Suzi Quatro
Greatest hits/On drugs - Sheep on drugs
Jam/Too posh to mosh - Little Angels
Fresh fruit for rotting vegetables - Dead Kennedys
Never mind the bollocks here's the - Sex Pistols

Re: Re: Octobers MOst listened to.

I used to borrow my brother's copy when I was a teenager (yes I can still remember back that far :p ). I eventually bought my own copy on vinyl (spit! spit!) but I've never bothered to acquire the CD. I really must get this new version. I bet it sounds great.

Re: Re: Octobers MOst listened to.

This is the only of his albums I own. I'd heard quite a bit of stuff on mp3 and this seemed to have some of the stuff i'd liked MOst on it, "Delia's Gone", "Heard The Angels Singing", "Angel", "To know you" and "The Light Was Worth The Candle". These are all IMO straight from the top drawer! But, in between the quality just drops righ off. What would you reccomend as a second purchase?

    Cheers

[The only newish ones I've been listening to are the Kill Bill OST, 100th Window, and Hail To The Thief - the rest are oldies-but-goldies.]

Kill Bill Soundtrack - sheer BRILLIANCE, much like the film

Massive Attack '100th Window' - fantastic for chilling out, with some REALLY GOOD (deep, dynamic, powerful) bass

Seiji Ozawa & Wiener Philharmoniker '2002 New Years Concert' - wonderful fun with the Strausses

Radiohead 'Hail To The Thief' - just keeps getting better and better the more you listen to it

Dire Straits 'Money For Nothing' - one of my old faves, and just great fun to listen to

R.E.M. 'New Adventures In Hifi' - another old fave; has two of my absolute all-time-favourite songs, and the whole album is brilliant

Caetano Veloso 'Prenda Minha' - fantastic live set from one of Brazil's living legends; Caetano's gorgeous voice set to a background of fantastic Brazilian percussion, guitar, and brass

Duke Ellington 'Jazz Masters 4' - cheap-ass CD I found somewhere that's worth it just for the song 'La Plus Belle Africaine'

Capercaillie 'The Blood Is Strong' - great, lively, Scottish folk music

Khatchaturian 'ASV Platinum' - another cheapie CD I found somewhere that happens to be bloody brilliant

Ben Harper 'Fight For Your Mind' - fantastic music, a lovely voice, and great production, but his lyrics can be a tad trite at times...

    Can't think of any more....
