I'm somewhere between bemused, befuddled and just downright astounded at some of the questions I've received regarding the kit I'm selling on Ebay right now.

    How does this lot sound:
    1. Dimensions please?
    - Please bear in mind that I'd written the width in the ad and have included a photo, which should help with scale, though this I guess is not a terribly bad one.

    2. Will you post to France
    - In the ad I'd stated quite categorically that I would accept home collection only and had even explained why.
Just why would I suddenly change my mind because someone asks me? Did he think that I'd put the effort in to justify why I wouldn't post it for the hell of it?

    3. Is there a buy it now price?
    - Does it bloody well look like there's one? Can you read?

    4. Will you post to Portugal.
    - No I bloody won't, read my ad and stop asking stupid questions...

    Sorry, just how I felt.

As someone who has been asked similar stupid questions when selling items on ebay, I can sympathise, but your replies do come across as rather rude IMHO....the people asking the questions are clearly rather lacking upstairs, but you just say 'please re-read the advert - the details you are after are discussed there' comes across as rather less stroppy than 'can you read?' etc.

Don't get me wrong, you are justified in treating these people as idiots because they clearly are idiots, but as a potential buyer your replies are perhaps a touch abrupt and rude - it would make me wonder what kind of individual you are and whether you'd be the sort of person I'd like to deal with. More polite replies saying essentially the same thing and the question wouldn't even enter my head :)

You probably got asked at least two of your questions because of peole like me. I also put in my ads that i will only ship to UK addresses. However if folk ask me nicely and i don't get any hassles then i'm willing to ship elsewhere. My last items went to France ( Mana sound bases) and the thing before that ( goldring Eroica LX) went to Denmark to a guy with only 1 positive feedback, but he was willing to 'Buy it now' at top dollar. Sometimes you just gotta trust people, also if you dont ask you don't get, not all people are crooks...

Go and make yourself and nice cup of tea and calm down ( :) ;) )

Some of these replies wouldn't be so reasonable if their writers had had their time wasted by auctions being 'won' by people abroad when you've specifically said you won't post abroad. You then have to go through a right palaver to relist without incurring costs.

Sorry, just to add, what I've stated above are not what I actually answered with, just how I felt whilst reading their questions.

Living abroad is alot harder to find decent kit, most of comes from the UK,compare the UK ebay for kit, compared to for example, the Spanish one, there are audio enthuisiasts in these countries who just can't get access to such kit.

I've seen auctions for UK only, but have asked if they will ship to Spain, some say yes, others say no,but I feel it ¡s worth the ask.

Like Adam, I often ask "UK only" sellers if they'll ship to Portugal. They often do.

It would help if you instead accepted to post abroad. What do you have against paypal money that happens to come from another country?

What I hate is when sellers dont answer you, even though you've asked a perfectly reasonable question.

What irritates me is sellers who won't ship outside of their own country... It's especially common amongst UK and German eBayers.

I think the problem with shipping abroad is the hassle when it goes wrong. I have experienced it as a buyer when the item arrived faulty from Austria. Two months in and its still not sorted. Was it the Austrian carrier, the German Carrier or Parcelforce. Was the fault due to the seller or the manufacturer? can I insist on my money back under eu or Austrian law?

Having said this, I sold my Linn Genki to a nice bloke in Italy and it all went well.
