I have had a pair of NS1000M's for a while now and while they do go some and have frankly outstanding sound IMHO, they are pig ugly and my wife is not thrilled. Can anyone suggest a more domestically acceptable speaker they have heard that has similar attributes?

Are you people into furniture & interior design, or hi-fi? I ask because it's a bit difficult to tell. As soon as someone posts up a picture of a proper big hi-fi rig, you guys are hiding behind mummy's skirts.

Both or is that too much of a conflict in your mind?

I prefer to think that a real man accounts for his partners wishes.

If you had a decent hi-fi, you might find that your partner would accept that as a part of your life's interests.

You need to talk to your wife. Most women I know would accept that their husband has an annoying hobby, and move on.

it's real sad that a woman should dictate the setup of her blokes stereo simply by it's looks alone...

Yep - either a blindfold for your wife, or popping both her eyes (she could then claim DLA :)). OK, just kidding...

I'm not sure you can get a similar sound in a less-ugly package, due to those huge bass drivers. What about a nice subwoofer with decent normal standmounters - you could then hide the sub (or use it as a coffee table)?

My mate got a pair of Opera speakers past his wife - she adores the looks and the sounds - but I have a funny feeling they aren't going to be as good as the Yams soundwise.

I Really like my mate's PMC DB1+ speakers - not heard the Yams myself - but if you wanted an attractive pair of speakers (they have a nice wood finish) and really sound excellent for their size - but the PMC stands for them are ugly - my mate bought some hand made marble ones instead and they work great.

Not heared your speakers to comment but asthetics are important unless you have a dedicated listening room. When listening to music (unless you are in darkness) you have to look at the room you are in inc. speakers, I personally find music much more enjoyable in a room thats nice to be in rather than an untidy room with wires everywhere with naf furniture/speaker cabinets.

If you like the sound so much can you not improve their asthetics? What is the rest of your decor like? Veneering them in a matching wood is surprisingly easy and better grille cloth can transform the appearance even if they are only in place when not listening, although I am yet to hear a grill make a noticable difference. I bought antique style cloth from quad to co-ordinate my av speakers with the esl's.

Room is large 28 by 16 amp is small 35 watts Lavardin IS reference but I don't play music that loudly as I have two small children. I listen around 10-12 feet from the speakers and I can have free space positioning. I like the absolute clarity of the Yams, the speration is superb and it's easy to follow any part of the mix, I also like the way that they manage detail without shrillness. I'm basically looking for something as clean in the mids and highs. Bass depth is not imperative but bass speed is.
