I loved all his programmes as a child and now my duaghter 4 and son 2 also love them, which just proves how timeless they are. My wife bought a DVD of all the Bagpuss films and these quickly became a favourite with the 2 of them. I am sure these slower paced programmes are better for childrens attention spans.

Good as they no doubt were for their era, I don't think they stand up against current output. I think current toddler-targeted programs are more intelligently put together to appeal to and stretch the mental capabilities of toddlers. These old kids programs border on the psychedelic.

All IMHO and with the greatest respect to recently deceased.

We will agree to differ. There is a depth and quality to these creations that nothing I have seen since has matched.

We will. I'm not sure that quality comes into the equation at all when we're talking about programs for very young children - I don't think that factor is at all perceived by infants or toddlers.

With regards to depth, that's exactly the reason I favour modern programs. When my little one sits and watches, say Night Garden she engages with the content cognitively. When she watches, say Pingu she engages emotionally. On the other hand, when she watches these old programs, or for that matter The Simpsons or Channel 4 news, she basically just mongs out, square eyed. As do I.

well you are obviously a better parent than either DL or myself who watch the stuff with our kids just because we like it.

I'll hand myself in to Social Services and put myself up for adoption. Or something.

That's going a bit far. Just lose the attitude and you'll be fine.

Re-read your post. It comes across as patronising, as does your reply.
