    closer than you think
    Hi everyone .
For the last week or so I,ve started popping over to have a browse on the Naim forum .
I don,t know how many of you still do .
But I,ve noticed a growing trend towards tweaking .
Now this is a serious post and I,m not taking the mick in any shape or form .
Theres obviously the usual spur threads , but there are also making cables , making stands and one I,m particuarly impressed with , using ball bearings in isolation .
Now , I,ve tried most forms of isolation and even made a few .
When I wanted to try ball bearings , I bought a set of Final Darumas , but these guys are getting them made .
They,re even running through the different types of materials to use .And these DIY ones aren,t cheap (especially the quote for ceramic ones )
On this thread there is also a stand that is set on ball bearings and it looks a real beaut .
Like I said at the start , I,m not taking the mick as I,ve found some of these threads a really good read .
The attention to detail with some of this stuff.
But it got me thinking ...... why?
Is this because Naim gear is becoming more round earth and showing attributes that can be tweaked (theres a thread about image height)
Or is this all cyclicle ?(i can,t spell titian properly , so what chance here).
Did the Naim guys tweak in years gone by and now they,re starting again?
Have they always tweaked , but kept it under wraps?(i,m thinking of the forum wars a while back when they took the mick out of the r/e tweakers)
    I,ve a feeling it,s cyclicle(there we go again:eek: ) as I,ve noticed this place moving away from tweaking(not DIY), although I expect it,ll be back .
    So , any thoughts

naim has always been funny about what it sits on probably because naims older casework rings like a bell. certainly their cd players are very fussy. the 5 series seems less fussy as it has sorbothane feet rather than the origional rubber or cd players solid metal feet and it's casework doesn't ring.
the 'ball-nutter' that you seem to be describing is afaik the conception of 'vuk' who is now a mana zealot ;) and is in fact used in the 'official' naim suport the fraim.
before the introdution of fraim, naim used to recommend various stands (quadraspire, hutter, mana, etc..) which may just be the genesis of the 'stand wars' but this is from before my time so someone more knowledgeable will have to confirm or deny this.
    cheers

The Naim forum's been tweak central for as long as I can remember, tbh.

The most cost-effective 'tweak' with Naim is mains/fuses. Its also the one the administrators are most touchy about. They pulled a thread only yesterday but the saga keeps resurfacing.

The stand wars were illuminated by the personalities but all the ferrous ones are now banned leaving just a few weenie boys like me.

The arrival of NACA6 should brighten the place up a bit.

It's not so much about tweaks but more to do with correct setup. Anything discussed there could easily benefit any kit used over here. There's nothing really new, for the ten years I've been on that board setup has always been discussed. Admittedly the knowledge based has grown and the ideas researched better and become more mainstream. And Naim's R&D seem to take notice of some the those ideas.
