I liked it when I first picked it up.

    Kinda felt right....

Its always given a good pic....but is hOPELESS in low light. The 8800 might be better with a light thingy.

for the same money now (as my 5700) you could have D40....:D maybe D80

    Hi guys,

If your budget is not that healthy you can go for one of the older models which are just as good:

Canon 350D, Nikon D50 - maybe there's still some New Old Stock around ;)

And the good thing about interchangeable lens cameras is that you can always get a better lens later on!

    Cheers,
    Ricardo

yes, its inteetsing to look at whats around....

I would like some thing with a bigger screen ..the older models (I thnk had smaller screens)

The one other thing i don't like about the 5700 is that optical view finder (in bright sun....not very good). I still miss the view off my Dads old Canon A1(film) which I used for a bit.

Again I think these have got better with time. :)

    What camera did you get?

    And what kind of rattling?

Does it rattle with the lens removed?

hi - yeah, it's the canon 400D - I've since solved this - its the little bracket that holds the flash...known issue by the looks of it...I'm not gonna worry!

I had a quick play with the camera last night - evn tho I don't have a CF card - I'm stil able to take pics and view them on the lcd screen (tho, they aren't stored anywhere) and I'm mightily impressed with it...
the only downside seems to be the build quality - it isn't as good as the xxD series...but I guess thats to be expected

The xxD series have a metal chassis.

The 40D is based on a 400D iirc.

Surely it's more like an updated 30D?

Don't overlook the Pentax options. Either the K100D or the K10D. Personally I prefer them over the Canon/Nikon options.

I did consider the pentax as don't they have image stabilzation..? - that I'm kinda used to - but most people seem to prefer canon / nikon and I got a good price...

Yep they do (or at least the K10 does anyway). The price you got your 400D for was v good indeed. Personally I'm a Nikon film SLR fan. Regards DSLR I considered everything from the Canon 400D/Nikon D40/50/40X up to the Canon 5D and Nikon D200. The K10D seems to offer everything the D200 does, for virtually half the price and with more interesting lens options (IMO). Given that I love my F80 was surprised I didn't love the feel of the D200.
