I am selling my P233MMX/64MB RAM laptop as I have three PCs in my bedroom, I cannot justify this and I need some money.

I want to sell it with an operating system but not sure what to do/

    1) Buy old copy of win95 + licence for £5
    2) Buy old copy of win98se for £15 inc licence
    3) Stick a version of Linux on but offer no warranty with regard to driver issues
    4) Sell it with no operating system
    5) Sell it with Windows NT workstation £5

If I use a version of windows I can also sell it with a legal version of Office 97 Pro which should bump up the price a little bit.

I'm using it with IceWM and Firefox at the moment, its called Vector Linux, its got the latest Kernal as well, it runs surpisingly well though it does cry out for 128MB RAM at times.

It only works with PC66 low profile SODIMMs so upgrading it will be unecomical.

I tried installing Madrake 10 on it once, it took 10 minutes just to load KDE

Mena while I have an antique PIII 733 with 256MB RAM (amazingly fast machine) and an Athlon XP 2000 with 512MB RAM and the full works (DVD rewriter, firewire etc).

So my laptop is just not needed. When I have finished university I won't need the PIII anymore so I will also be selling that, then I will buy a proper laptop with the money. I.e a somthing that will run XP ok.

Well Win 95 is certainly out of the question. I can't imagine any body even my dad buying a pc with 95 on it these days. 98 SE is probably your best bet. NT is going to require too much processing power in comparison IME. You don't want to be selling a machine that runs dog slow. 98 will work fine with that spec, (albeit obviously slower than modern machines).

    Just my opinion of course.
