    Orange UK = 1800

1900 is only used in USA/Canada AFAIK.

Dual band handsets cover 900/1800, whilst tri-band do 900/1800/1900.

Correct. For the sake of completeness, I believe T-Mobile are also 1800 whereas O2 and Vodafone are both 900. I don't think there are any phones available now that aren't at least dual band (900/1800) and a great many are tri-band (most current SonyEricsson's for example).

I've also heard that some of the 900 networks are also building 1800 cells but I somehow doubt that. It would be a bit pointless esp. as the higher the frequency the shorter the transmission distance hence the more masts required to cover the same area. This was what allowed either Orange or one2one (before T-Mobile takeover), can't remember which, to claim they had more masts than any other network...leaving out the small detail that they'd need a lot more than Vodafone or O2 just to get the same coverage ;)

Can you actually buy those Pokia handsets??? I hate mobiles (mainly for the insipid bloody awful ringtones) because I don't feel right talking into something that stops 3 foot from my gob...

I have a mid 70s red GPO 746 dial phone at home, so anything similar to this'd be great for a mobile :) BTW - the dial phone is the only one I've had that you can hear over the hifi - bonus...
