I got my Kontrapunkt 'b' from vellbergaudio in Germany - friendly guy to deal with and a lovely cartridge at less than half UK retail. Not sure if he can still supply, though, nor 2juki in Hong Kong for that matter, but it might be worth emailing them to ask.

Otherwise, how about an Audio Technica OC9mlII from www.lpgear.com - very good price for what is, apparently, a very good cart indeed.

The talk about fakes is a scare tactic by Ortofon AFAICT, to discourage people buying stuff from abroad. They simply screwed up their pricing and distribution structure.

I'd always thought that, seems far more bother to fake one than its worth

    I agree with 'Bob!

There were scary 'ads' running on HiFiForSale warning people off from buying any 'counterfeit' grey import Ortofon, and that Henley Designs were the only approved importer for the UK.

Like most sensible people I bought my Ortofon from Germany at far less than the ludicrous prices charged in the UK, and have had no problems with it.

In fact I have only heard of one new Kontrapunkt that had a problem (knackered suspension) and that was one of the genuine and guaranteed ones supplied by Henley! The owner of that is now without his cartridge whilst Henley send it back to Denmark for repair.
