Got pushed this morning by a crane, not a nice experience. Still shaking after 3 hours.

I was waiting to turn right, the crane was stationary. He decided to pull out into the traffic without indicating. He said that he didn't see me. I assume he heard the impact and the sound of horns from other cars as he pushed me into the path of the oncoming traffic.

    Hi Dev,

    I hope you are OK.

I hope your car is not too badly damaged. I have never been hit by a crane...........well not yet!

Good to see you at the Hifi show on Sunday.

Thanks guys, I'm OK now. I could not stop shaking for over half an hour. I suppose because it was so unexpected. My pride and joy on the other hand is not so good, with severe damage to the rear nearside door, bodywork just behind the door, a crease on the front wing and a dented sill..

No. So long as the floor pans aren't too badly damaged. Cars don't have chassis's these days.
You're well and that's the main thing.

Bad juju Dev.. Glad you are OK... it does shake you up a bit...Hope you get it sorted quickly.
I had an almost identical incident a couple of years ago - was stationary at a T junction waiting to turn left & a cement truck (with the big roly thing on the back!) pulled off the kerb into my drivers door....made me jump just a little.
(You probably don't want to know but what the heck..) Took a year for the insurance to get sorted...he claimed it was my fault  & they only gave up the day before we were due in court...a nightmare worse than the initial impact..
Good job you got pics - I ran around for about 15 minutes trying to get a camera from somewhere & eventually got some. Now always carry a camera in the car + a camera phone.

Robs, I had a camera phone. It was pure luck, but I'm glad I had it, even though the lens needs cleaning, hence the poor picture quality:). It should add weight (sic) to an argument. I was stationary waiting to turn right. I assume the driver of the crane saw the traffic stopped behind me and thought that they were letting him out. Stupid assumption as he didn't actually indicate according to the driver behind me. I couldn't have seen his indicator. With the pictures, my insurance company has already told me that it is very unlikely to lead to any complications. It seems that the other party has accepted liability.

What shocked me was that even at ultra low speed he moved my car sideways with no effort. My next car will be a crane. I wonder if BMW make them:).

Sorry to hear about what happened, Dev. The crane driver sounds like a right muppet! Glad you are in one piece and hope you manage to get the car sorted soon!

Yikes! Presumably you got witnesses and the photos, so there's no question over fault... Still a bad experience I'm sure. Glad you're all ok though!

Oh, knew it wasn't anything like a rolling chassis but didn't realise there was nothing there. Is the strength from the entire underside of the car then?

Dev: Sorry, perhaps this isn't the place to debate why your car wasn't crushed
