The wafer fab and fibre-optic plant at my old university department burned down on sunday morning. I feel very sorry for the people who were doing research that is now lost, for the undergrads who'll be disrupted and not see the fruits of their chip design project and for the department in general which was at the top of its game (only department in the country to have two 5* research ratings).
