Julian you are too kind! The deal stands if we sell it
Seriously, it was good to get the views of one of the Salisbury Squad, nice to hear some new music, and entertaining to see Robbo's rapid mood swings as he popped in and out during the match. We only had to look at his face to know the score, saved us watching what was, fromj all reports, a rather tedious match.
The time delay thing was interesting on the hard core stuff, I did suspect that would be the one genre that exposed the compromise. Many may recall my questions to Titian regarding to time alignment of the Nestorovic system. This setup is effectively the same, with a delay of a few milleseconds on the subs. As was suggested back then, this arrangement is fine for 95% of stuff, but give it something really fast and repetative and it comes unstuck. Of course Titian would not notice this as he doesn't strike me as a hard core trance kinda guy!
System is not properly setup yet of course, no mains treatments, running off small voltage converters, and no experimentation with positioning. Doing some calculations today, seems the system needs to be moved somewhat!
Julian has a good way of putting thoughts into words, and his take on the Naim's strengths was that it offers greater focus and attack on the leading edge of notes. As I have built a system whilst looking to get the best rendition of said notes trailing edge, the fact that a sworn Naimee didn't get up and walk out must be considered a minor miracle.
With regards to the subs, the magazines always say that the best subs are only noticeable when you take them away. So I guess the Frickin' Awesomes can be considered a success, even if, a Julian says, my neighbours don't neccessarily agree! He's not joking about the door in the hall by the way!
I'm with Julian on the DVDA/SACD thing. For me DVDA generally sounds far more convincing, but the differences are small enough to be dwarfed by the quality of the transfer. I don't know what Robbo thought, he was too busy eying up the Proacs!
A pleasent day was had, none of this switching cables around bollox, just listening to some good music and discussing the meaning of life.
Thanks for making the trip to the both of you. I look forward to hearing the Naim setup in the near future (I can't believe I just wrote that!)
