How do these prize things work? Are there strict guidelines and procedures that must be followed? :rds2:

Do the organisers have to show the winners form to the public or someone overseeing the competition?

That's the only reason I can think of for them to say Pete hadn't won after all.

Perhaps they stood to get in trouble?

On the other hand if they DIDN'T have to present the winners form to the public or anyone else, then there was really no point informing Pete that he hadn't won- an none of us entrees would have ever known or cared. Far better to let it stand, as it was their mistake.

What a farce!! How could they have been so stupid as to not check the form first?

No..... I made the mistake !

But before they informed me they should have checked everything was ok, and then when they found my error.

I would have been none the wiser ....

You can't calculate it like that. The chances of NOT winning at least once in 20 tickets with 20% chance each is 0.8^20 = 1.15%. Pretty tough luck but not totally extraordinary.

Oh well they should reward you somehow for their mistake, it is not very good on them not to!

Still, it is very good of you to be so straight with them. All the more reason for them to reward you!

I am sorry about my last post on the other thread congratulating you, Pete. I hadn't read this (going through the posts as I have been away).

Still, enjoy the Consonance, I am sure they will sound at least as good! :)

    The small print said:

Any entrant found to be using psychic, paranormal or supernatural powers to influence or manipulate the drawing of tickets will be disqualified.

That's why zanash got disqualified. He used his woo woo magic to cheat. Tut tut.

    What he said.

Any chance you can explain what the actual error was? I understand it was related to the small print and an error on your part but care to go into detail.

I just took it to mean that Pete hadn't got all the questions right- least that what I think he meant.

Easy to do in the middle of a show with all the music and commotion going on around you. The 'real' mistake was the organisers not checking Pete's form, informing him he'd won and then calling again to say he hadn't. That comedy of errors dwarfs Pete's oversight.

I can only deduce that the organisers hands were tied due to strict competion procedures (which they had to adher to) once they realised they'd made a mistake. There seems no other logical explanation.

Bad luck old son. But who's to say that Mcintosh amp was actually any good with its excess glass and big watts.

Thing is if they had called him and said he won they should honour it. Even if he got the questions wrong, they didn't need to tell him that, lets faced it these types of questions are silly any how.

Still at least they got your addy, no doubt you'll be hounded with all sorts of crap now.

Quite agree. That's simply nitpicking. They had a winner who was readily contactible, and they had an amp to be won. That's all that matters.

Can we draw any parallels with the state of the hifi industry from this debacle?

THE MC275 Prize at the Heathrow Show

Dear All, I have been directed toward your thread and feel that I must make a public reply and apology as quite a number threads make many assumptions and generally over the top statements so here it is in plain view for all to see.

The draw for the MC275 was drawn on Sunday in public by the Publisher of Hi-Fi world and the "winner" was contacted Tuesday
(and here is were we made a mistake and can only apologise for this) The entry tickets were checked on Wednesday where we found that 3 identical entry forms existed from the "winner", this broke the rules:

    RULES AND CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

    ONLY ONE ENTRY PER HOUSEHOLD

MULTIPLE ENTRIES WILL BE AUTOMATICALLY DISQUALIFIED

NO EMPLOYEES OF MCINTOSH OR OF ANY COMPANIES ASSOCIATED WITH
THE PRODUCTION OR DISTRIBUTION OF THE PRIZE MAY ENTER.
    (These are as printed)

We then contacted the publisher of Hi Fi World magazine and discussed this with him and jointly decided that the rules should be upheld even though this meant that we had already informed the "winner" and would now have to redraw.

We will now redraw the prize draw at the offices of Hi Fi World, contact the winner and announce it in the next available issue of Hi Fi World.
Let me make it very clear this is a genuine free to enter prize draw and someone will win it but in order for it to be fair the very simple rules have to exist and be upheld. I would ask anyone taking a view on this to realise that we have been generous in offering such a prize and should it cause so much commotion then we may not feel so willing in the future please accept this in the spirit in which it was intended. I sincerely hope this MC275 brings much pleasure to the final winner.

THE BEST OF LUCK TO ALL THE CORRECT REMAINING ENTRANTS
