    Looks interesting David, particularly :-

    Cable Controversies part 1
Martin Colloms begins the first of a multi-part investigation into the Physics and Sonics of hi-fi cables

Should be a good read considering PM is the editor.

wey hey! I get a mention in the show report right at the end as the enthusiastic gershman team.:)

Sounds like an interesting magazine espescially without any advertising pages to fill and pander to.

They are still going to have to be careful about what they write, that is if they want any equipment to review.
It comes across as a slightly po-faced Brit version of the late Listener magazine. Why not. But why not do it as a PDF download for less...

I'd like to see them publish a full list of reviewers (because I really wouldn't want to subscribe to the writings of some well-known figures).

And I see that Martin Colloms' wretched numbers are already prominent.

Indeed - with his usual nonsense about Krell. I seem to recall just a few years ago the top scores were 40 or so and now they go to 130! For some very avergae equipment. What a load of nonsense.

    Hi,

It is an interesting marking system. He tries to explain it here.

Seems a bit expensive. £50 for six magazines.

A shameless bump to promote the critic forum.

    Anyone a member there?

I'm not a member, but I plan to keep an eye on it as of now. As Joel said previously, its a same you can't download the mag though.

However, please allow me the shameless plug of saying that the little speakers I make got a good mention in the recent issue. I went to visit Paul, and whatever you think of his writing he really is a top bloke, very kind and a true music lover. :MILD:

I met Paul Messenger last year at a show and he gave me a copy of that months (bi-months) mag. What a load of non-sense. he said that they did a comparison of various 'studio monitors' and why you should not use them....compared to hifi speakers. The monitor list included Visonic Davids (1970s era), some old Tannoy vintage 1980, about 2 or 3 other 90's so-called monitors NO mension of ATC or PMC which are so widely used. What a load of tosh!

If you are going to compare - do it properly Paul (if you are reading). It's just the sort of thing I would expect from Martin Colloms and Paul Messenger, they have no idea about anything, apart from recommending advertisers gear!

Paul currently uses PMCs, IB1 or IB2, something of the sorts.

    hifi critic

    Hi David.

This bi-monthly (I think) Hi-Fi Critic magazine/on-line purchase is the brainchild of Martin Colloms himself, I met and spoke with him at the Manchester hi-fi show in January 08 about his Hi-Fi Critic magazine, it's been on the go for a few years now. Mr.Colloms is a lovely chap with a severe weatlh of Hi-Fi knowledge/Industry!!
We both agreed that the system being played/auditioned by (Mike) 'Zouch Audio' was totally superb, the Dali Megaline speakers were totally incredibly AWESOME sounding!

    Best wishes - macvisual

Actually, he normally switches between 2 pairs in his room at any one time with about 3 pairs in close proximity! He showed me a pic of his 'listening room' - what a state! He's got gear everywhere. How can you audition a pair of loudspeakers with another pair only a metre or so away? He has about 6 ARO arm tubes kicking around and the largest NAIM stack in the world - all thanks to Naim Audio.

He shouldn't have shown us those pics....

Believe it or not, Critic do not accept advertising but rely solely on mag sales for their revenue. Whether or not you like the mag and agree with their opinions is personal choice but "recommending advertisers gear" is not a criticism that could be levelled at Critic.

Well, he has to use something. And I happen to know it's paid for (at the usual trade discount, presumably).

Almost any manufacturer would be over the moon with joy to have Paul use his gear and constantly get mentioned in Paul's reviews, and would be happy to give him a very good price on his stuff. Paul using Naim is simply a matter of preference, convenience and proven reliability.

(Conflict of interest alert - I once had an article published in Critic.)

just checked the website, unfortunately the article is not available for archive reading. Buying it and putting it up would no doubt breach copyright.

On the site, there is mention of the following revue:

?Bell Wire? (1m) (single strand) issue number: 11

:) not that it might be contraversial or anything :D :D
