I added a USB card to my PC a while back and it worked with no problems. Slotted it in and it was found as soon as it started up.

A coupe of days ago I tried using my printer, but nothing....

A bit of googling turned up several people saying to turn off, and unplug to let all power leave the computer, then it should be found upon restarting. So, I did so but unable to turn the thing back on the next day!

Opened up the PC, reMOved USB card and tried again. Worked fine.

Plugged the Card back in and it seemed to work fine.

Restarted PC, and now the cards not found again.

Ideas? Idiot proof as always please :)

Seriously MO with the amount of problems you have had with your PC, is it not time to move on?

I was going to put something in the OP about odds on first response being from you telling me to get a mac ;)

The only real problems I've previously had have been down to the SATA card and drive on my ancient MOtherboard.

I fully intend to get a laptop in the next few MOnths when funds have recovered.

Yes, if its running leave it well alone! :)

Thats from one who has had more than his fair share of problems with computers.

Sorry, its doesn't help very much! :)

I have problems with my usb. As well as switching off the computer, pull the plug and hold down the on/off button for 30 secs. Works on mine. It will come back after a few days. Some techy told me you can get very low level power surges which can effect some motherboards. Of course this may do bugger all on your computer.

That's what I did. ReMOved the extension that has all the PC stuff plugged into it, and left it overnight.
Tried to turn it on the next day and nothing. I could hear the machine powering up, but the MOnitor didn't respond, and it didn't sound like the OS was actually loading up.

ReMOved the card and restarted and it seemed fine.

Restarted since, and the cards not working again.

    lol :)

I again reMOved the card and replaced it. I've restarted the computer several times since and all seems fine..... for now.

The replacement's a couple of MOnths off yet. Very tempted to go for a laptop. But it's looking quite expensive. I want at least 2GB meMOry, and as fast a processor as possible. Will probably use seperate storage, so no need for a huuuuuuuuge built in drive I guess. Also, a high quality screen. Basically, a machine for surfing and day to day use. But also for running photo and music software on. A good friend tells me I should go for a mac. What a crazy idea eh?
