M3 GTR - great car. Storming V8 race engine and it pretty much won every race it entered (mostly in the US) which had Porsche crying foul and spitting the dummy out as they were rather upset they weren't winning (for a change). Porsche pressure led to a rule change which made the GTR illegal so BMW withdrew from the championship the following year and that was that. Porsche won everything again  .

Thanks for the vid - downloading it now :)

Glad I wasn't a Sunday driver... imagine that looming up in your rear view mirror ...especially the red Porsche about half way round...

That Porsche driver was a knob. He could so totally have moved over but instead he blocked the BMW for a whole corner. He should have known better than try to hold up Hans Stuck in a BMW GTR!

That's the same track where Clarkson wollowed around in a Jag Diesel then got totally shown up by a lady, classic.

Great clip though, nice piece of driving, would like to have know what kind of speeds he was doing, certainly now hanging around, unlike the Porsche!

The track is the Nürburgring Nordschleife which is without question the greatest motorsport circuit in the world and is not to be confused with the "new" Nürburgring GP circuit beside it where the Formula 1 cars race and is nothing special.

F1 stopped racing at the Nordschleife (literally "North loop") after 1976 when it was decided that it was just too dangerous for F1 after Niki Lauda's near fatal crash in his Ferrari. He was in the car being burnt alive and since it's impossible for marshals to cover all 14 miles of the track adequately a fellow racer stopped his car and helped him out which saved his life.

Fortunately there are still modern races held there. When it's not in use for a race weekend or for private testing by car manufacturers (who use it as the definitive judge of a car's handling) you can drive up to it, pay your 20 Euros or whatever it costs and have a blast round in whatever you arrived in :) .

Any time between 8mins and 8m30s is very good (you'll need a very fast and good handling car). There are very few production cars that can do sub 8mins (and I don't count things like a tricked out Caterham R500 or road legal racecars like the Radical SR3 as production cars).

Excellent video - definitely worth the download!

I'd love to head down to the Le Mans Classic and take in a few laps round the Nurburgring in the Spitfire on the way, but it'll need a fair bit of work before I ever get that far ;)
