    Manley Steelhead too.

Just remembered, the k&k phono kit can be fitted with a volume control, and the Art Audio ones.

You could always make up a pot in a box passive pre, that widens your choices a lot. An alps blue pot wired up with a shunt resistor will sound very good and only cost £15 or so plus a box and some sockets/wire.

I currently use a passive tvc and would like to keep it but I have a Dynavector P75 and I need to crank the volume up a bit when using the old gramaphone. Was going to go back to an active valve pre with phono but thought this would be a better altrnative.

Rolls Bellari VP129. A low-end thingy with one triode at
the input of each channel, followed by an army of cheap opamps.

is your problem a lack of gain from phono or uneven levels between inputs? in the first case a pot wouldn't solve the problem. neither in the second, for the same reason - AFAIK the fixed output is always set to the highest and a pot would only act as an attenuator. though with some of the top US preamps you can adjust levels between different inputs but it costs $$$$$$$$$

I think the real problem is I miss my valve phonio.I had thought my adding a valve phono with a volume pot I could set the gain on this and when switching between cd and vinyl it would be set at a higher level, from what you are saying this wont work which I suppose is why I asked the question.I think my real problem could be solved by putting back a valve phono and just turning the gain on my pre up a bit.
