I am considering buying a Graham Slee Gram Amp 1 Bridge Phono Preamp.

I am now using a promitheus TVC - passive pre and am wondering if the gain from the Graham Slee Gram Amp 1 Bridge Phono Preamp will be adequate.

Alternatively is there anything better out there for about the same price???:MILD:

Thank you, Ive checked out all I can from the Internet and it seems that the cambridge is the best around before you go into silly money.

I got my Ear 834p for about £300 a few years ago.

I think your system is decent, and phono stages really make a difference IMHO.

l switched from a Cambridge 640p to an EAR 834P, the difference is massive. Unless your TT is a cheapie do not bother with the 640p, l found it very disappointing.

    Cheers Mondie.

I used a Glasshouse TVC with an EAR 834p for a while- sounded lovely, no drive problems that I noticed.

The trannies in the Glasshouse are made by Promitheus then tweaked by Glasshouse. The Promitheus has a 6DB gain structure. Did not work for me with the Loesch & Weisner Pre and Micro Benz M2 cart. Required a step up trannie in my case.

If budget allows go for the Whest phono stage as it has lots of gain needed by the TVC. I believe its 72dB for MC.

My friends uses the Whest with the TVC and the Denon 103

A great phono stage for $2600. Compares to the $29,000 Boulder and just as good as the Manley Steelhead according to Fremer.
For me having to spend $2600 on the Whest and $625 for the TVC does not make much sense, thats $3225 total. Stay with high output MM and at least 52Db of gain and all should be fine. Or for $2200 buy an active with a good phono stage say a used CAT,AR,CJ for example and use the savings to buy some music.

I may have an audio synthesis ADEQ for sale if a friend of mine (to whom I have given first refusal) doesn't want it. It's rather rare, designed by Ben Duncan and better than the subsequent Passion Phono. It saw off Tom Evans and Graham Slee products - which I like - and is very close to my EAR 834P and MC3 step up (£1600 plus worth) - however decided to keep the EAR thus the offer - if anyone is interested drop me a PM and I'll keep you posted. It really is very very good - currently set for med output MC and easily changed by an internal plug in.

ABC Audio in London import the firestone Audio Phono stage. I understand that a Hifi magazine has just used it for a cartridge shoot out.

I'm looking to go valves pretty soon too - PureSound P10 - so I have a Lehmann Black Cube SE with large PWX power supply which would give ample gain, I think - PM me if you're interested.
