Yes, I think it was a wise move.
Yes, it was a wise move, I agree. The project was a nice turntable, but sounded a bit bland for our liking. Did you ever see a pic of Tim's Xerxes? Looks nice.
No, it will probably sit on a shelf and get stroked and admired from time to time Joking aside, I need something that can swing a few more volts than a 306 on occasion for driving other speakers.
Just out of curiosity, what other speakers are you going to use with the 405? I hear that Tannoy goes well with Quad.
Experimental build stuff mostly, plus some old Gales and ARs. Plus some little monitors that need lots of volts.
I have just acquired the excellent michel Iso with hera ps which beats the phono stage of my resident Sumo Athena hands down; but, moreto thepoint, the vendor, in conversation, mentioned that he lent it to a Quad 34 owner who found it far superior to the phono stage in that pre amp.. These are popping up s/h at around £160-£200 now. also its worthmentioning that most of the Hi Fi News staff had the Iso in their resident systems10 years ago (when they cost £850 +). It has no adjustable settings however..but sounds good to me (denon dl 304, Orofon Rondo bronze).
