    Hi
Hope someone can put my mind at ease

I currently have a Tom evans Microgrove plus phono stage
and i am wondering how much better the Whest ps20 is.

I dont really have the time to sit in a dealers and compare the two

I have read very good reviews on the Whest but is it £450 better than my current phono stage?

    regards Steve

Probably not. If you go to PFM and read the 'Quest for a Phono Stage with spirit' thread you'll read one mans quest to reach phono stage nirvana. I visited on Saturday and whilst the Whest did many things well, we all preferred my Loricraft to the Whest. The Whest is very 'hi-fi' to my ears, but it didn't make great music. It does all the space, timbre, spreading the sound beyond the speakers you could want, but with a bit of Coltrane or Muddy Waters there was not enough coherence, they weren't playing together anymore.
If you want to play with a new phono-stage have a look at the Loricraft Missing Link, it's half the price of the Whest and is as good or better in nearly all respects.
