Can anybody tell me if this has a coax out? Only asking coz a friend of mine needs a half-decent transport for very reasonable money and this fits the bill if its got a digital coax output (for a DAC).

No problem........its dead easy to fit .......just need to id the dac chip or lift it from the optical out [before it gets to it. You do some wonderful mods to it like asdding a pulse transformer and stuff. I've several schematics that cover the stuff. This was one of my first mods to add a digital out to a mini disc player that had only an optical....and bloody hell it worked !

I miss my PDS-703 - I wish I'd kept it now and mated a Rega Io to it, rather than buying the Planet (and trading the Pioneer!)

Not that long ago I was eBay hunting a Pioneer stable platter, and there are several models with optical rather than electrical digital out. I think the PDS-505 doesn't have any digital outs at all, or at least I think I remember an eBay seller telling me that, although as Rory says the Precision version has an electrical out.

It seems some dont and some do. Some 505's do but the 507 doesnt theres little info on the www. It might have to wait anyway the friend/gf (well sort of) relationship seems to have run its course (for me anyway) so not my problem anymore. It was to go with the MF X-80 I got her a few weeks ago.

I think all of them have an optical digital output, and some have an electrical coax. My PD-S904 does...

I had a PDS703, second the great transport and build, it's still going strong, must be 10 years old. Average sound without a dac though.

Not all have optical out I'm afraid. The PDS505 Precision doesn't for instance.
