Due to the increased cabinet volume, plus the nature of transmission line design, the AML will have far more extension. Also the AML's are fully active (not just powered) with a better treble, hence a totally different price.

Having owned a pair of AML1* for quite a while and there being a pair of TB2 (not +) powered from a Bryston 4B-SST in the studio at Westminster college, I can tell you the AML1 is an entirely different beast.

The TB2 has good bass for its size and pretty good detail but is a tad crude. It is good for the money though.

The AML1 is, as far as I am concerned, the best stand mount speaker I have ever heard. It is also better than a lot of floor-standers.

*I am selling my AML1's at the moment so you may like to ignore my comments, but I am speaking purely as an owner and user of each speaker. If something else was better, I would have bought that instead ;) I am only selling to go DIY.

Just thought to add, both Ya-Boo and Brizonbiovisier have now heard the AML1 so you might like to ask them for an honest opinion. Otherwise I don't think many have heard the AML1.

Although the TB2S+'s that I have are only bi-amped, and even then not by Bryston, I would have to say that there performance given their price is a constant revelation to me. They are accurate in a way I have never heard speakers even considerably more expensive sound. However, the AML1, now there is a different beast entirely, and though I have never heard them myself, I have NEVER read a bad review or heard a bad word said about them. I think the best way i could some up how PMC's in general sound...is that.. they don't, if that makes sense.
One day I hope to own a B100SST, then I would be closer probably to want I want to achieve, until then, I will simply drool when people like that git tenson are selling AML1's.... :D

Tenson, you are a git, I hate you, I hate you... ;)

I did study at Westminster a couple of years back. They have a nice surround sound PMC mixing set-up and the main engineer used to work for Air. The TB2 were secondaries.

Crude... as in they sounded good but were not able to completely produce a live band in front of you. You could hear everything but the subtle details that make it seem real were partially missing. This is the same with most other speakers in this price range though.

Obviously you get what you pay for; you are comparing a BMW, an (arguably) good car, to a Ferarri, something that is really a bit special. Really, no easy comparison can be made.

Edited to add, wow those stands look cool!

You think so? I prefer the look of the Partington Ultima myself...

tell you what, you can have my entire set-up for the AML1's, I could hook up an Ipod and that would do me.... :D :D :D ;)

I have only heard the uber supped-up ones in Thorstens living room but again they are VERY, VERY different speakers. I just can't comment on how they compare.

Personally the Transparence sound is not for me, but I can see why others would like it.

Just to follow up here, I had never heard of these speakers until a demo at Simons gaff a while back on my way home from the hifi show
I,m happy to agree with Simons thoughts they are the best small stand mount speaker I,ve heard in 20 yrs period
I cannot believe these do not get any attention in the press

If you have a small room these are a "must listen" before you spend any cash,In tandem with the Tact 2.2RCS they were a perfect pairing

FWIW Simon I think your barking selling them, with the limited space you have in your room how are you gonna better them?
