    The Guardian music reviewer Alexis Petridis is now on my christmas card list for life:

    http://www.guardian.co.uk/arts/reviews/story/0,11712,1141638,00.html

    My favourite bit: "so inoffensive you have trouble remembering whether you put it on".

    Audiophiles across the country violently disagree, no doubt, as they play Norah's latest for the 1000th time.

    Poor old Parky I say.
    Presumably the article was written by some annoying young snot who doesnt remember Parky before he went to Oz. He may have come back as the pin-up of the Prozak housewife, but back in the 70's, Parky was the only place on UK TV to feature anything resembling Jazz. Who remembers Buddy Rich etc, on Parky? I don't think Mr Rich would have put up with Norah's dirge.

    I bet you've been to Basingstoke, even if you don't live there.

    Nowt wrong with Billie Holliday. "Strange Fruit" is possibly not the best material for love action, mind you.

    Basingstoke is about 4 hours from London... if you travel by train anyway! Never been there, been through it and that was enough to make the blood run cold... but is it really as bad as say, Slough or Maidenhead?

    Maidenhead = OK.

    Slough = shit.

    Basingstoke = better now they've:
    a) redeveloped it
    b) I don't have to change trains there
    c) Gary's moved out (a mate from school - so I've had the misfortune to be there several times - and even went to Martine's when it was still open!!!
    d) a plate of beans
    e) a bacon

    (don't worry about d/e, Ilockyer, lhatkins and henryt'll get it though!)

    I'm partial to a bit of Snorah - but preferrably her snores, next to me, at night :) Yum yum. I bought her first album but have only played it about 3 times. I love the "airwick" quote though - he he!

    BTW - who was Basing, and why did they name a town after his smoke sesh? Just wandering...

    Having seen and heard all the fuss about the first album, I forwent my usual Bach/Handel listen on Saturday afternoon and had a listen to it in the local record shop. My view tallied with that of the "Guardian" man - beautifully-produced, beautifully-performed nothing very much. To make matters worse, I was facing a video screen showing endlessly the performance of Basel's pride and joy, the Top Secret Drum Corps, at the Edinburgh Tattoo, and I ended up paying very little attention to the record - that's how much it grabbed me. Basler Trommeln 1 - Norah Jones 0.

    I won't bother listening to this new one at all.

    Yep, (again) I'm with Tones and The Guardian on this one. Can't stand her myself, in the same way many here can't stand The Darkness :(

    Jones sounds like Marge Simpson when she "sings"....sorry, we can't all like the same things!!

    Music shouldn't be all about production, but it's a nice bonus when it's well done.

    Edited to add a missing word :rolleyes:

    Tones, what did you think of her first album?

    I listened to it last night infact. Yep, a touch too nice and fluffy in places for some perhaps, but sometimes that's,,,,,,,, nice :rolleyes:

    Perhaps if she did a performance with The Top Secret at this years Tattoo it'd be MOre inspiring :lol:

    and Penance, Marge looks much better with her hair down IMO
