Just bought Hi-Fi News and read about the power line communication stuff?

Anybody know more about how it will effect Hi-Fi?

My initial thought is that there is already loads of air-borne 'interference'... its called radio! This doesn't cause an issue so why should PLC? I believe part of some standard for electronic gear is its radio interference rejection and electromagnetic rejection etc...

It forms part of the general EM "smog" that electronics have to survive in. Mobile networks, wi-fi, bluetooth, etc all add to it. It will only continue to get worse.

However, you will find that you get FAR more RFI reaching your hifi from other objects you own, such as PC, washing machine, fridge/freezer, etc.

So as I thought Hi-Fi News are making a fuss about nothing?

By the way, they were not saying that it will make the mains dirty, simply that it will introduce air born interference.

I've listen to only hifi....ie everything else off fridges, freezers, washers, dishwasher, clock radio, computer etc [this was a mid morning test]
The difference was minimal..couple of pops from the fridge, add a power condition sudenly everything jumps into focus better dynamics sound stage imaging. So I know I have poor mains to start with. If any of this has gets through my lynwood mega I may have to consider a mains reconstructor.
