    Hi,

I'm in the market for a high quality pre/headphone amplifier.

I was looking at the Sugden Headmaster, but after doing a bit of research, I understand there are better alternatives, such as:

    Meier Audio Prehead
    ATC CA2 Pre-amp

Are there any others I should consider?

    thanks,

    Hi adsmithy

It depends on your headphones. I use a pair of AKG K1000s and I use an old NAIM NAP140 to drive them. If I use a normal headphone amp they sound dreadful. Checkout www.stereomojo.com as they reviewed something about 6 months ago which got a very good review.

Can't really help too much but can confirm what has been said above about matching the amp to the headphones.

I had Grado GS1000's and stupidly bought an X-CAN V3 - Didn't sound that great at all. The X-CAN V3 is supposed to be a very good match for the HD650's though.. so it really depends on your headphones.
