There's a thread running on TNT Audio at the moment where people are claiming that pressing PAUSE on your CD player and leaving it paused for about 10 secs before playing a track greatly improves the sound! Some claim that the effect lasts for just a while (maybe a single track) and some claim it lasts for the whole CD...

I haven't been able to reproduce the effect but I wonder if anyone here has tried this trick?

Is this just not an attempt by vinyl obsessives, to try and assuage their vinyl complexity withdrawl symtoms, during these cd sabbaticals which they may entertain on occasion, in a total corruption of the simplicity of the format.

Its worse, some naim people claim that skipping through to a song via the remote sounds worse than if you do it on the CDP front.

Also apparently for best sound you need to stop the CD then move to the track you want then press play

    Bullshit everywhere.

I've heard it all before, it came oiut around the time of freezing your CDs. Which leads me on to what I was about to say:
It can't really get any sillier than it did in the DOB or 'Days of Belt'. That really was Hi-Fi lunacy!

If you have tried it and have good ears you would find out that it really works!
And don't you know about turning around the power-amplifier twice in one direction and then twice in the other before using it. One thing is important though: you must be facing the north (magnetism is important here) and never when full moon.
I always do that and it works. Try it and you will hear the difference.

Actually I thought that you guys new about these tricks. You know everything but this no? I'm disappointed.

It's a piece of tinfoil MO. Magic tinfoil, mind you.

If you go for the free offer they come round to your house and suck your brains out through a straw, so be careful.

I asume that someone's set this up for a laugh to see how many 'audiophiles' start raving about the tin foil effect (sorry - beneficial and harmonious effect upon our energy environment of specially trated metal foil). I hope it's not serious:confused:

Our basic concept is that everything in the modern environment has an energy pattern that we (human beings) are sensing and reacting to - that we are interpreting these energy patterns as 'danger'., 'intruders'.,' predators'., or that we cannot resolve these energy patterns and therefore remain under tension.

Hmmmph! Humans, animals, birds and even plants have energy fields for sure, but the only energy fields around electronics are man-made - what a load of old crap! The tinfoil is probably just shielding RF...

Now, energy transferrence between people, plants, etc, that's something different....

To the best of my knowledge, Peter Belt is totally serious* - he's been part of the audiophool community for too long for it to have all been a joke - he used to run ads in the back of mags before the internet came into being.
Still, did anyone see the kilner jars of stones being sold on the web a few months ago for a couple of hundred dollars a pop? From memory they'd been treated in some way as to make them sympathetic to audio waves?

*Well, as serious as its possible to be whilst still beliving in that stuff. I notice there's a Dr or two on the site, how anyone can proudly proclaim their qualifications whilst endorsing that stuff is beyond me.
