    Hi,
I have a project debut turntable which i have had for a few years, i am about to start building my first real hifi system and was wondering should i replace this or is there a cost effective way of upgrading it?

Whilst im here any advice on amps, at the minute i am looking at the creek 4140 or 4040 possibly a cyrus one or an arcam of some sort, my budget for an amp would be around 100-150ukp (just got married and bought a new house). Any pointers and advice would be much appreciated.

    Thanks,
    alvyn

Hi Alvyn, welcome to the forum. What are you planning on using for speakers. the Creeks are great little amps. I wrote about them here the other day.

    Thread

Get a second hand pair of Rega Kytes or something similair to go with them, and you'll a sweet little starter system!

    thanks

Thanks very much, i hadnt really thought about speakers yet, wanting to get hold of the amp and a good cd player first (dosent really make sense does it:)). It is good to hear that the creek is a good amp seeing as they go for very cheap :) Although when i have more spare cash i will start looking into a valve based setup, im a guitar player so i know the difference that valves make to a setup.

Any suggestions for a cd player would be much appreciated as well, in fact overall starter setup info much appreciated. I mostly listen to jazz and blues, although my listening tastes are very varied. But a good system for playing my favourite jazz albums would make me a very happy bunny, and finish off the house :)

I'd take your time, trying to do cd player, amp and tt all at once might not be the best approach. Atleast hang back on the TT, theres nothing wrong with the project, it'll last you longer.

    musical fidelit

Was thinking that the TT could be done last, shall concentrate on amp for the moment. Anyone any opinions about the musical fidelity e1 amp?

God there is so much stuff. Its all a bit like getting my first guitar and amps etc. Although i have ended up with 7 guitars and 5 guitar amps, so hopefully i will not get so addicted to collecting hifi equipment, but going by some of the threads on here it looks like another room full of cables and lights is on the cards :)

Hope my newbie ramblings are ok on the forum.

If your in a small room, get the creek 4040,it's superb for about £40,the phono stage is decent too,it ¡s not very powerful, but very charming and sweet amp.

    A few amp possibilities.

    QUAD 33/303 good condition 150
CYRUS ONE good condition recently serviced 100
    CYRUS TWO scruffy 150
INCATEK CLAYMORE integrated amp mm/mc 150
    LINN INTEK integrated amp 175

My recommendation: Incatek Claymore. Check out this link – should convince anyone!

    A speaker recommendation.

    RUARK TALISMANS 800 275

Can't go wrong with these. Check out this link.

Just add a budget CDP and you're away. Why not consider a DVD player (if you don't have one). At this price point I reckon you don't lose much. You get to watch DVDs too!

That Inca looks good, the Quads are eminently tweakable too. The Linn is fast and pacy, but a little bass shy, I like it but it's not everyone's taste.

    ...

    Hi,
Seem to have sorted out the cdplayer for the short term, just won an arcam alpha cd player on ebay. Its one of the original alphas. What should i expect from it? seems a bargain for £31

 Certainly a buyers market on CD players at the moment. Saw a marantz 63KI 2 going for next to nothing the other week. Mad.
