The giant squid has the largest eye of any animal.

The tarsier has the largest eyes in proportion to its body weight of any mammal.

Regarding the largest mammal eyes - i would presume the whale
    .

My first thought turned out to be correct. But we went for lion! MOst the people in the pub went along similar lions ( :D ) with Grizzly's, tigers, and such.....

I'll wait and see if anyone else gets it (or cares)

Whale does seem MOre likely though.

Honestly - i would SERIOUSLY dispute that IMHO.

    FIXED!!!

I'd like to know what the answer is then - maybe this calls for some research, and further opinion - any mammal experts in the building?

    I want my free ale!!

If you are thinking of elephant or something it is definitely not - a whales eyes are about the size of a cantaloupe melon. - a whale also has the biggest brain incidentally.

the answer we were given was horse

I've since been over to check out a horse who was happy to let me inspect his eye (i'll resist my horses joining us at a drink/sMOke around a fire anecdote). Perhaps the correct question should have been land mamal? My/pub dudes bad?

erm...... do i pass this over to you now?

Was this quiz meister Jonathan Swift or something - a horse???!!:D Was it about vision field? A horse can see a fair whack around it with near 360 degree vision due to the location of its eyes. Probably more than most other mammals? Maybe that was the question? There are many other land mammals i suspect with bigger eyes....maybe your pub quiz guy was supping the free ale..

Maybe WM can inform us of some more horsey facts and trivia due to his intimate relationship with said beasts.[IMG]

I don't even know how to look that one up on a google search? Perhpas asking Jeeves would be best? They do have big eyes though! And i'm pretty sure that was the question. Though perhaps it WAS land mamal.

    Anyway, another one :D

Who ever gets this can set the next one?

What does "Kangaroo" mean, and why are they called it???

two free pints for the first correct answer.....

it means 'i don't understand' from whatever language the Aborigenes spoke when the brits muscled in. So when they tried to find out what this bouncy creature was, the natives replied kangaroo, or something like that?

Or is that an old wives tale, and i was gullible for it?

Pub quizzes are OK, but as TMH says, can be a waste of valued drinking time. They're best held on Sundays, when everyone's still dead from the day before or skint.

A few friends and I used to do one in Exeter on Monday nights, purely a music quiz and it was the usual beer for coming first, plus there were at least 8 one-off questions to which the first person delivering the correct answer to the quizmaster got a free pint... sometimes they were very cheap nights out. For about 3 months, there was only ever two teams that won, us and this other lot, sadly it got stopped though. Whether it was because the same people were always winning... spoilsports.

In general quizzes though, always seem to come about 2nd last, but it's harmless enough fun.
