    worth it?

    Im wanting a power amp, it will clean me out!
    So serious quick answer (OK i need help to justify the purchase) needed


    PS. i want a P. amp due to needing more 000MPHH for my dynaudio's

    thats not bad penance (the price I mean).

    I seem to recall them being about £1k new.. but it was a long long time ago I was looking at them.

    anyhow, I seem to recall they were reasonably powerful and clean sounding, but its a long time ago and I dont properly remember.

    £550 though... I think there will be other equally good/better things around if you look long and hard...

    Not sure i want to make the complete valve jump yet. Tried a WAD Kel34 a while back, didnt get on with my speakers.I know thats only one amp out of many, but i worry about Dynaudio's and valves. Id love to try a complete valve setup, ill probably end up DIY for a second system.

    Tone, i hope your right mate, tho a lot of people say AVI will do it for me, just nervous blind buying:eek:
    Tho i guess i could recoupe the cost passing them on anyway
    I would have to use the Shearne as pre amp for the meantime, but i have seen AVI pre's for around 250-300.


    Sooo, anyone got a good IC for pre to power use, very cheap or on HP?:D

    i bought mine blind with the avi pre. I like them very much. i figure it would cost serious money, that i don't have , to seriously upgrade them. If you can reach se london you're welcome to a listen.

    mine have grey boxes - heck they could even be green - me being a little c/b. what does that mean? by the way penance I was chatting to a ex avi dealer the other week who considered the pre/power as a bargain at rrp 2.5K .

    i may be wrong but I think he was reffering to the back box and not the front plate which I believe has been the standard avi livery for eons.

    john sorry should have made clearer twas past my bedtime when i posted
    AVI made 1 basic version with Mk1 11 111 mods over there lifetime slightly differing internals,iF the rear outa case is black and first prefix is before 94,there are some parts that are nolonger available, and are more seceptable too failure with some power hungry speakers

    the best units are post 98 prefix{rare} silver outa case{looking from the rear}

    early mono's £350..........last models go for £500/600 pair

    pre's early £225.........£400 for one of the last 98

    they are great VFM seem to have a rather small but dedicated
    following

    that said the latest Lab series is in another league to pre/mono
    your not far from me John , your welcome too a listen if down my way

    oh dear black box and 92 prefix but sensitive speakers so not the end of the world. I'd love to hear the new integrated but impending move, new baby and other real world stuff makes hifi expenditure unlikely. Having said that when the avi stuff falls over then who knows...

    john my one of my 92 mono's failed ,sent back to AVI for repair

    very helpfull cost £150 inclu collection and return which I though

    reasonable, stuck up a rapor with the main man there got

    chatting he explained the various + and - of their older stuff ect.

    just thought I,d let Penance know forwarned is ect ect

    is Chorley posh for Depford ?
