    Can an SQL server instance sit on an exchange server..?

    I'm no expert on either but I see no reason why not. They both run as apps/services on an NT/2000/XP machine so I don't see any reason why you couldn't run them on the same machine - resources allowing.

    Yep, SQL Server can sit on an Exchange Server box. Micrsoft's Back Office and also their Small Busines Server products include both 'servers' and are designed to run on the same box.
