how i can get the latest quicktime for my pc without tainting it with the bloated, maggot rideden, festering lump of faeces that is itunes?

While attention is focused...

Does anyone know if it's possible to shrink/compress quicktime movie files? My parents Nikon Coolpix camera has a video MOde on it, which makes Quicktime files.

 

Quicktime Pro has that ability as I remember but it costs about 30 quid.

I am sure there must be millions of apps that will do it, check out versiontracker.

 

K-Lite Mega Codec pack means you dont have to even have crappy Quicktime either.

 

In my experience you are best avoiding the codec packs and just installing what you need, as you need it. The packs aren't usually very well tested and the included codecs usually have compatibility problems.

Quicktime alternative is the best solution by far.

You only get problems with K-Lite codec pack if you try and install it when you have other codecs installed beforehand.

 

You need to upgrade your Quicktime ASAP since several potentially serious vulnerabilities have been found. 7.0.4 should be patched. Applies to Macs too of course, although they are less likely to be exploited.
