    Hi

I'm looking to get Rachmaninov's piano concertos.

Looking for a reasonable price, but most importantly fantastic sound quality, which I find helps me enjoy classical music all the more.

A great rendition of the pieces would be nice too.

I've noticed the recording below. Is this one which classical rachmaninov fans would reccomend?

this one hasn't got so much on it but it's cheaper:

Ashkenazy has always been a pretty standard recomendation. Also look out for John Lill on Classics for Pleasure on vinyl (if you still do vinyl!) Not sure if they've been reissued.

Also these are astounding recordings, some of the best ever made, you won't believe they are 50 years old!

You don't get the Rhapsody that way though. I would buy the first one though just to get a taste of what is truly an amazing performance and an amazing recording

Stephen Hough and the Dallas SO/Litton on Hyperion. Excellent sonics - you wouldn't guess these were live performances. For once the critics were unanimous. The Rhapsody is included.

If you don't like it, I'll take it off your hands, I've been collecting that series.

This is without a doubt my favourite rendition of the Piano Concerto Nr.3. The Number 2 I prefer Ashkenazy with the Concertgebow, which I believe will be in the box set you bought.

I recommend buying this one even if you have the boxset as it is truly wonderful (imho). The LP version can be found but it is not that easy to get hold of and can be quite expensive.

There is also another very good recording of the Piano Concerto Nr.3 by Sherbakov. You may want to listen to that if you get into the concerts and start wanting to find out about other performances. :)
