Whilst sat in this evening I found myself bored, so I went for a drive as the weather was lovely, windows n sunroof down, arm out the window etc.

I forgot to stop drivin, 250 miles and a near big circle later I headed for home.

Any one else do this, and God I hope they dont put petrol up anymore.

    You git! :D

I love doing exactly that to be honest, I have had my car 3 months and already have put on 4,500 miles. I have driven all over the North East of england since I got it.

Nothing better when theres nice weather than finding some good B-roads and having a blast down...

I particularly like A68 (leading up to the Scottish borders), the B6318 (Millitary Road), A686 (Haydon Bridge - Penrith), and I find theres some good roads near where I live in the Silverhills area (between Stanley and Sunniside), and also the Derwent and Kielder areas.

However, I dont like cleaning the thousands of dead insects off my car afterwards

We sure do, but at the speeds me n Paul usually wind up doin, flys take a bit more than a carwash to get rid of.

    Paul,

One road I got on last night was the A67 from Barnard Castle to Darlington, lovely fast corners for 16 miles, then through Darlington and out on the same road toward Northallerton for 8 miles the a left at the Toll bar garage, lovely b road that swings you back round through Teesside and on to the east coast. Even stopped for a ice cream at Saltburn.

I might head owards the lake district tonight and see what I can find up there.

I'll check that road out when I get my car back... not long now....

In the meantime, I'll just have to make do with a go-kart this afternoon :D

I got bored one Saturday evening and decided to time myself round the M25.

I did it in about 70 minutes averaging 85mph. Even through the variable speed limit section.

There's a nice bit of smooth tarmac on the Essex stretch too. Something you don't notice during the day!

i used to do this a lot. certainly when i got my pug 406 v6 coupe - the first car i had capable of really going for it i took a lot of random drives, 140 down the m6 iirc was the 'randomest'. the last random drive i did (although unintended) was down to brighton to see the hi-fi guy, who never showed up and had his mobile turned off. still it was a nice day out and dave at heatherdale was worth meeting.
lately though things like the school run, shopping, the daily grind, plus the fact that i now drive a diesel shopping trolley mean that the joy of driving is no more and so random drives have bitten the dust.
    cheers

When I get the chance I go for a bit of a blast, some niceish country roads out towards Staffordshire, absolutely deserted after midnight....I don't go mad of course, never wrong side of the road etc (which is lunacy if its a blind bend) but still good fun, certainly much more enjoyable than the usual traffic on the ring road.

Yesterday I had a surprisingly good drive, out to Cosford on the day of the airshow, managed to avoid everyone else stuck in the traffic for the most part, bit of a blast on the M54, then on the way back I did encounter I hit some serious traffic jams, but it didn't matter since I got to watch a Eurofighter doing its stuff right above the car.....

Now you're just making me jealous.

The roads aren't quite so much fun down here. The military road is great, but I've seen a lot of serious accidents happen up there. I used to live near Derwent and would go down there all the time - great place with very little traffic on the roads ;) - lucky if I can hit 60 around here, although it's better now I've finally moved out of Slough!

Aren't you supposed to count them first though??? - I'm sure I read that somewhere!

I can quite imagine there being a few accidents on the Military road since I'd imagine a lot of people use it to test the top speeds of their cars on the long straights, however, if your pressing on the side roads can cause a few heart stopping moments, when a car suddenly appears - so I try and take it a bit easier down that road now....

Still no sign of the car getting fixed though

yeah, where I live is great - Weardale valley (a68)...lots of country roads all around, in fact I we (my girlfriend and I) went out for a short drive last night (and a nice walk) and we seen quite a few hares - blimey, they were able to jump on top of dry stone walls without any problems!! i hadn't seen that before...but we're always seeing pheasants etc...

I was cycling into work this morning and startled some sort of bird. I'm not sure if it was a pheasant but it was big and fat and had a very strange squawk :D
I also scattered bunnies far and wide.
    Frequently see badgers and herons.

Miles from everywhere but very near perfect.
I know some of the North East of England roads spoken of in earlier posts, the Barney to Darlo Road, the Hadrian's Wall Road towards Brampton,Toll Bar Garage (Mart if you had turned right a mile earlier you could have been in Scorton/Richmond then straight into the Yorkshire Dales).

I particuarly like the A689 up thro' Stanhope (nice water splash) right up to Alston and the A68 down to Darlington.

Anyone who knows and appreciates these roads will be pleased to hear we are not alone because Sven loves the Helmsley TT.

This is the B1257 Bilsdale road which is particuarly fast with sweeping bends and only a couple of nasties (if travelling North a right hander at the Hawnby Junction, the S's thro' 30 MPH Chop Yat and police m/cycles) .

If you like the look of Aidensfield (Goathland) in Heartbeat try the Egton Bridge to Rosedale Abbey Road or for a picturesque valley the A170 Helmsley/Kirbymoorside/Pickering/Thornton Le Dale < worth a look BUT NOT during School Hols.or Peak Holiday Periods.
