Hi, can anyone help with this as I'm getting sick of it.

I dont know if I have 2 seperate probs or 1 is causing the other, anyway...

A while ago I noticed that as soon as my comp is switched on, I am asked if I want to connect to the internet, I say no, but am then prompted every 30 seconds and does not go away until I do connect. Annoying, but dont think its lethal....

I also noticed that when I try turn my computer off I get an error message along the lines that RBClient2 still running, end task etc etc, and does not let me turn the machine off. Now I dont know what this is or where it came from, but the only way of getting rid of it is to do ctrl/alt/del sometime after startup, end task, and it says runtime error 40006, but at least it means I can now turn the machine off.

I have tried adaware/spybot etc etc and none of them detect anything.

Computer is 3/4 yrs old, running windowsME

    Any help appreciated as always

    Ian

Hi, the RBClient2 is the remote backup client for Windows. To get rid of it you could try the following. Go to the start menu and select 'Run', in the dialog box type in msconfig and hit OK. On the next window select the 'Startup' tab and look for RBClient2 then uncheck the box next to it. This should stop this service from starting up when you launch windows.
I also found this link to troubleshooting/optimising WinME that might be of use, http://www.burzurq.com/forum/trevtweak.html. Hope this helps.

Don't know if this is avaiable under Windows ME but try going to the 'Run' command and typing services.msc. In the next window scroll through the list until you find the offending service(s) and then right click on them and choose 'Properties'. Then under the properties window set the Startup Type to 'Disabled'. That should remove the service(s).
