Why is it that many ads on the radio are particularly irritating?

    Examples:

    1) National Lootery rollover ad, claiming that luck builds up. Irritating presentation and it's somewhat misleading imo.

    2) Inland Revenue ad for tax returns. They've stopped running this one, but the one I mean was the one with the sleeping person muttering in their sleep, finishing up with "Lost my pudding. Go away!"

    3) TomTom Go. Sat nav for pocket PCs... not sure why they're advertising on the radio, but if they're going to, they don't need the annoying little kid demanding a burger.

    Any others?

Add to that, ads such as those for double glazing and radio jingles by the station themselves, continuously harping on in parrot fashion that they play 'The South's Biggest range of Hits'. Even Classic FM has got bad for adverts of late!

I was having a conversation about this the other day with a guy who used to live in Bristol...it seems our formative years were spent listening to adverts for Allen and Harris estate agents and Bathwick Tyres courtesy of GWR. I think some of the adverts are still running. We were sat in the pub humming the adverts 10 years on...shows you how much they stick in your mind.

That'd be Coldseal "Winders" then. Mind you they've thankfully gone bust.

It's one of the reasons I barely use either my DAB or FM tuners now - Radio1 is crap, Radio2's pretty decent in the morning, but commercial radio? EEEUGH! Thank your lucky stars you lot didn't have Plymouth Sound, back in the day. Trully awful - makes Radio Devon look good! Germini (oops, I mean Gemini FM) are almost as bad...

Let's not even go near the local phone-in shows - absolute shite!
