Oooh you're gonna have a nice time. I've only got two of the Trojan box sets myself - The Dub box set you've ordered and the Tighten Up box set (early seventies ska, rocksteady and reggae proper) - great stuff.

Current reggae faves I'd recommend Burning Spear, Max Romeo, Prince Far I and for something a little less heavy Jimmy Cliff (the Harder They Come soundtrack is frequently played in our house and has some great stuff stuff by other artists too).

If you are a vinylista, keeping an eye out for early 70s reggae compilations like the Tighten Up series is a worthwhile exercise. The Reggae Chartbusters series is especially good (and can be had for peanuts) - I got the complete vinyl set for £1.50 from the Sue Ryder shop. These compilations are great because you get to hear a wide variety and then start looking for the ones that stick.

PS. Another reggae compilation which is an excellent intro to lots of other interesting things is Rebel Music (which I think is on Trojan as well).

on the dub front, I remember hearing some really good Mad Professor back in the eighties, but not sure what records they were - looking on kelkoo/ebay he seems to have released countless records - anyone recommend whch are the best ones to go for?

I probably got a stack of about 50 reggae albums ranging from classic bob marley to some of the newer dancehall reggae and such like.
I also have a few dub reggae cds from the liks of sly and robbie. been a listene of the stuff for ages.
some of my favs are Bob marley, YellowMan, Pinchers, Shaggy, Terry Linen and elephant man. not a big fan of the trogan horse sets but play.com i think have a deal on them atm.

This month's Mojo is worth checking out for the cover CD. A whole bunch of Studio One stuff from various of the compilations being put out by Soul Jazz. Some excellent stuff here. I bought the Studio One Original Dub album on the basis of one of the tracks on this freebie and it was well worth it.

All the studio one stuff is worth having, the 100% dynamite stuff etc. is really good. And its properly released, on CD and LP. Quality. As are most things on soul jazz actually.

There's the Dub me crazy series - I've got them on vinyl and they're grand.
Also worth considering is Mad Professor remix of Protection by Massive Attack.. Adds a new dimension to the original!
