    matt,
you obviously haven't been looking hard enough if you haven't spotted any chavs driving m3's - i've seen a fair few around bedford. i even posted about one a while back when he nearly stripped his gearbox overtaking me and nearly ploughing into the car in front of me as it braked for the upcomming roundabout. sorry but the m3 is one of those cars that turns most people who drive them into idiots. dangerous idiots at that. still i must say given the choice between a burning bmw driver or a burning cyclist i'd have to pee on the beemer driver and let the cyclist fry, there's just no excuse for cyclists is there?
    oh yes kerfleeeeg, kerfleeeeg
    cheers

It would be a mistake to think chavism as a personal affiliation ends when earnings start. Take all page 3 models, most footballers, Victoria Beckham... need I go on? You should see the 911 Carrera S round here with a Graffiti paint job - trick? No just sh*t.

My Orange Sub3 will out perform most sports bikes, never mind an M3 (up to 35mph of course :D )

I have been told by someone in the motor trade that the manufacturers' performance figures are always slightly 'conservative', so that they can't be 'done' under trades' descriptions if the car fails to match the published figures.

Hence BMW's time for my car was 7.1 (to 62) whereas TG managed 6.5 (to 60).

Thank you MattF for a fairer assessment. I am an extremely careful & courteous driver (the car is expensive enough to insure already!), and most other B-M drivers I come across are fine. The 4x4 crowd are the ones who throw their weight about on the road, I find.

The guys in the aftermarket kitted-up Beemers, Corsas, etc are a different crowd.

Are we talking E46 M3's or the ealier E36 (and pre-EVO at that) models?

If it's the new shape one's then maybe it's the chav definition that's causing the confusion - check out the chavscum website - they have a special section on chav cars.

I would also say that I don't see that many E46 M3's in Bristol (and I work in the centre overlooking a main road). Boxsters and TT's on the other hand are ten a penny. I guess if M3's were commonplace around here then I probably wouldn't want one - there's always the 400bhp M5 should that situation arise.

    Matt.

bub, you can twist and turn like a twisty turny thing. in the publics eyes a bmw driver will be branded rude and chavvy no matter what you say. still it's better than being a new age, brown rice eating, crystal / navel gazing cyclist, so go ahead and chav it up big man.
    cheers

I am indeed talking E46. I can think of 20 at least round or near here. Take the 26 year old chav dude who runs the local Domino's Pizza outlet. He started as a delivery driver (moped) his parents helped him buy out the franchise - now turns over >£1M (the highest turnover of any Domino's outlet in the UK apparently) moved from M3 to M5 to 911 and now he drives a brand new 360 spider. he is still chav through and through. I can assure you chavism is not defined by personal wealth.

Whatever you say Julian. Incomes are a lot higher in the South-East of England/Home Counties, it may well be a much younger, less experienced crowd with their M3s and Porsches, etc.

And attitudes are VERY different down there, with the "****-you" mentality being noticeably, and distastefully prevalent. You and I live in different countries. Having spent about nine years in London & the South East, I am in no hurry to move back. And all your roads are permanently clogged-up, so what's the point of a fast motor down there?

    Is a Beast

The only reason for owning a fast car down here is to stick two fingers up at you neighbours (an all too common practice)

But why is it whenever I find someone tailgating me, they are in a 3 series. Of course they soon disappear in the rear view mirror round corners, but I am aways amazed at their tenacity in catching up on the straight bits

I don't know, Merlin. In my case it's either a Volvo or Mercedes.

Mrs P is from Plymouth, she trained at Derriford, then moved to Bristol, she currently works at Southmead.
Frenchay and Southmead have now joined forces i believe.

You see what I have against BMW's is that whenever I am sat at traffic lights quietly minding my own business, some Kevin in a metallic blue M3 with a bass bin parks next to me and proceeds to roll his own.. It happens every time I drive through Salford and most times I am in any Northern town.
I spent some years working in Salisbury. Anywhere south of Nottingham is a dump as far as I'm concerned

So does that mean 911's and 360's are chav cars too then? Add to that list all the cars that celebrity chav Beckham has owned and what does that leave us with?

Maybe my imaginary £40K (plus a bit more) would be better spent on a V10 diesel VW Touareg or is that a chav-mobile too?

And don't tell me that the wife's new A4 cabrio is chavvish - she'd be mortified!

    Matt.

Well the 911 GT3 is just about ok (and the Turbo of course). I do actually consider several Ferrari's to be really quite chav but thats just my opinion. I personally like the newest RS6 - apparently Audi have finally got the "feel" right.

Hey has anyone listened to the REL Quake? Any views on subs or related stuff? Not sure if anyone has any views on sat/sub versus bigger integrated speaker systems.
