    Saab,
You, know thats strange, as the last 2 I rebuilt it was no.2 when went melted cheese on the owner, possibly something to do with too much boost, too little octanne rating, and far too much ignition advance dialed in, by the saps who 'put the phooler box' between the ecu and the main mangement loom maybe?
If my poor decrepid memory serves me right, the 2.2 legacy block was used, squeezed cast cosworth pistons, some judious use of the spark eroider, and weldier, to rectify the old feed problems, maybe a spot of x/drilling and mods to the crank webs to aid as well, been so long I can't remember?
Most of them we rebuild were 'helped to internal restructuring' by so called experts 'remapping them with phooler boxes' beyond the constriants that would safely been appiled' IE: watch the needle on roller dials , see the pretty lights, do you want so more, responce dribble, dribble, wank wank wank..........I'll get me credit card?
I used to fit a small temperaure sensitive sticker inside the crank cases, If the temparture of the oil went above 140C (road use), it turned red, RED=FOOK all warranty sunshine, moral of the story, look after your stuff, take pride and care in ownership, don't left twats loose with your motor, and if you do thrash it, treat it right

    good advice:)

I always thrash my cars tbh, just has to be done, but i change oil after 3k and use Casttrol 10w60 (I always get turbos for cheap tuning).

btw, there have also been many instances of Imprezas blowing up after oil changes

I think we are all a bit acquisitive, otherwise we wouldn't be here. I am sensible enough to realise that people make you happy, not things.

Hi Penance. OK, so what was her name (PM if you like)?. It would be some coincidence if I did know her. If I did, I hope I didn't know her too well!

So Saab what exactly do you thrash your cars with. Is it a John Cleese type thrashing, or do you simply cane them. Enquiring minds want to know?

er,no,not a Cleese type thrashing,in fact,I lovingly clean and wax my car.

but on the move I drive like a twat, but safely,of course.Whats power for if isn't for winning mini road races? Who doesn't want to get to the top of the sliproad first? Its not immature, its manliness

tyres last about 8k depending on what daily commute I have,GSD3 F1s cost me £1800 last year :(

    Saab,

It wasn't the big ends that went sir, melted pistons I'm afraid.
X/drilling the crank, lead slugging the older flow holes, ultrasonic cleaning, prefect sizing and plasma nitriding, helped the crank, I used Arrow rods only, best by far, better inho than carillo, we made all our own small ends resized, and end to end balanced to 0.1 of gramme, all stress was removed, Ilmor rod bolts fitted 21 tonne I think?, and all components were x/ray'd to check for internal stress farctures/blow holes, pourosity etc, all main caps were modded to accept more Tone style mods, for extra cooling.
Oil galleries were opened out, and flowed, and painted with special substance to aid flow, oil pump housing and gears were also modifed.
Blocks, were also decked by 10 thou, and willis ring groove machined, (along with custom head gasket, they head together for a good 28 psi, chambers were welded and reshaped balanced and equalised to.3cc), valve sizes were increased, moved the valved guilds, welded up and redrilled, 3 angle seats, to aid low level lift ( could have used 30 degress, but prefer 3 angle for overall preformance.)
Never ever had a problem with bottom ends on scoobys after, as for oil good policy I'd recommend every 3K for a thrashed turbo and £5k for normal aspiriated, I found Motol the best oil by a factor of what ever, they did sponsor us, but it was shit hot without question, they did a 10-50 fully synthetic racing oil (they used in the Le -mans cars), you could use on the road superb, smelt of sweet bannanas and was ornage awesome stuff, I did a whole season with no damage on the nutter car, after the end of year strip down, everything was in tolerance, and spotless, it has a superior degerant in it as well.
Even used to take regular mapping runs on the rollers with the turbo glowing almost transulent time after time, fab stuff, wasn;t ultra dear either 4 litres was about £30 (trade) in 98.
Yes I've also heard of the scoobys dumping their guts after an oil change too, how I would do it, use an engine flush, leave it ticking over 15 mins, throughly drain it for 1/2 and hour, if you can fill up the new oil filter as much as you can with fresh oil, refill the car, then disconnect the crank angle sensor (it won't start then) then crank the car over for 30 secs' should fill all the galleries up then and turn the oil light out, then reconnect the CAS, should be very safe that way :)

I have one in the boot of the Merc too, would you believe (its standard equipment, and sounds sh*te) I am lucky though, as many mercs have the factory fitted Bose upgrade - that would be embarrasing!

750 posts! lets push on to 1000

    ah,melted pistons,sorry

I will find these links eventually,i think you will enjoy reading them, there are some really knowledgable guys in Scoobynet (I am not one of them),in fact, all the really good guys are not tuners, they are diy'ers

also,I ran my Impreza with Millers ob and Optimax, plus knocklink, bloke across the road from me bought a Type R and filled it with standrad ul,and he laughed at me telling me i was falling for marketing bs:) he went on to tell me he was using 0W Shell because its the "best" and F1 use it (yeah right). The P1s are now going as well, ive heard a bird tell me they have got the fuelling maps right on the edge so get a dodgy bit of old sul and forget the ob.....................................

I have always tried to know enough to look after my car,I get lost with the really techy stuff:)
