    Auric Illuminator

Now it's not often that I'm moved to write a review. Yes my kit is good. Yes it's better than what went before. But it still leaves a bit to be desired in the smoothness and analogue-ness stakes.

    Or does it?

Yesterday, I was introduced to something new. Now I've tried green pens before and yes they make a small difference and yes some green pens are better than others, but these are not night and day things. Well the thread title gives the game away and this one really is night and day.

I will never be able to listen to another CD that has not been treated - at least not without grimacing.

I now have one hell of a fine analogue music replay system - that happens to have a CD player as a source.

I'll spare you the superlatives and simply say this: I live in Central Somerset. Drop me a PM. Bring CDs. Hearing is believing. It is not subtle. It's the way CD should have been.

ps. I was also introduced to two other voodoo tweaks yesterday. And yes they both work. Like the Illuminator only more so. They are on my wish list.

I don't know how well this product will work for those with, errrm, low-end kit :shame:

It's bloody obvious on high-end kit. Probably best to get a demo first. Mind you, it's £35 and will treat up to 400 CDs so it's a cheap tweak.

Well, one in particular really. It is a special light. It achieves a very high intensity for short duration pulses and it does something to the stuff the CD is made of. The effect is greater than that of the Auric Illuminator, but not a replacement for it. The effects are cumulative.

Sadly this magic lantern is not available to the great unwashed. It's apparently 'pro' use only

Hey just be glad you don't need magic pens to colour in your CDs then!

Well on the basis of all this I've just ordered a set off ebay and I'll try it out when I eventually get my new CD and amp.

I just went onto ebay and typed 'auric illuminator' into the search box. The seller is based in USA $39.99 + $8.00 shipping so about £28.00 - might be VAT + Duty to pay though I asked him to mark it as a gift or sample.

Precisely, so you might as well get it from Tony. It will probably cost you less.

BTW: this stuff is continuing to impress here. I can't believe what it does for drums. So much snap and impact. And voices sound so clean and natural. Doesn't quite get rid of the last ounce of hash in rock cymbols, but it's certainly better than without. This stuff is a revelation. Wish I'd discovered this before I spent thousands on high-end kit.

Excuse my ignorance technobear but unless I'm going blind I don't see anything in the thread that mentioned you got it from wadia-miester. If I'd known I'd certainly have got from him.
