You need to do something about getting that back then Nick! How can someone just 'disappear' it?

Did you turn off Noise Shaping? Quite an important one that IMO.

I take it you have tried all you can to contact the guy?

Have a listen with it on and off Nick, I liked it more off, more dynamic in the treble. I did suggest it before though ;)

I arranged for Arthur to visit and pick up a cartridge three times and gave up in the end.
Nick, There's a PT Ordinal converter on eBay at the moment.
Not as good at the mighty DC but a large chip off the same block IIRC.

Well I am using the bel canto now and its quite a bit better than the deq so no worries ;)

In the longer term might go for a john westlake unit or an esoteric.

Lets build one - seriousely :)

There are plenty of NOS and Pro 24/96 dacs around dirt cheap.
Use the main board, upgrade the components and fit the mother of all PSUs - and a nice fancy case.

    Anyone up for it?

Yes, thats exactly what I am doing with the DEQ, but not just changing components, I am changing the entire input and output stage to £150 (each) transformers ;)

Oh and your going to help me, or else! :p

    Which other traits exactly?

You say you want a 'sense of correctness, cohesion, tonal quality' as if they are traits themselves. To me that is just a description of how we would all like our Hi-Fi to sound! We have to get the traits that are important to us to achieve that in the first place. You can't just have 'a sense of correctness' without getting equipment that has the traits needed to make it sound correct to us!
