    Hi

Robert Palmer the singer from Yorkshire has died at the age of 54 years old in Paris. He had an heart attack.

I wouldn't say I was his biggest fan but I do have a few of his records that have given me & others a lot of pleasure. I have sort of followed his career from the 70's to the 90's. He came across slightly different to most pop & rock artists. Musically he did dip hais toe into many styles.

He started off playing in the Alan Bown set, a soul RnB band in the late 60's. From there went into bands such as Dada & Vinegar Joe playing a pub rock/blues/soul style. He went solo in the 70's producing a number of albums.

He hit big in the mid 80s when he sang with Powerstation & released Riptide album with 'Addicted to love'. The video provoked a lot of reaction for one reason or another. His albums covered & borrowed from many styles old & new.

He had a lounge lizard, sharp dressed man style about him. This stood out throughout his career.

I liked him because he produce one of my favourite records in the 80s. 'You're in my system' which sounded very good on 12" single. Addicited to love always goes down well at my retro gigs. I'll give them both a spin tonight.

    R.I.P. indeed.
just recently i re-discovered the album heavy nova with the 'other' hit of his simply irresistable on it. seminal excessive '80's power suit pop music.
    dean,
if you have it polease play the above song too.
    cheers

LOL! :D Yeah, you can say that again. No wonder Patrick, the main dude from the American Psycho film was a bit of a fan!!

Not heard any of his albums all the way through, but liked most of his singles output from the 80s.

I've always wanted to hear the albums he made with the Powerstaton. Just wondering if they were worth a punt? The obvious hits like "Some Like Hot" and "Get It On" were definite feel good vibes for me way back when they were originally in the charts. Also liked his solo hit "Bad Case Of Loving You". All cheeses of the very finest vintage!! :MILD:

'She makes my day' was his best song, I think.

    Un-starry star.

For once, I may just agree  .
"Every kinda people" (although not striclty 'his' song) was also another classic.

PB - you should be ashamed :p .
